No association, but isn't this cool.
Feel like getting ride of the Audi for this one! |
Sorrry. Been out drinkin' and thought he said 'vagina".
Disappointing thread. My bad.... |
My first drivable vehicle was a 63 doublecab I bought in 84 for $250. robin egg blue, 45 mph top land speed on a flat surface. I miss Beasley. One vehicle I've ever named. I miss him.

I don't think they made deluxe pickups but people are doing them now. That will sell for $25K or more.
|
That is one sweet transporter.

Beautiful, wonderful, awesome. EDIT: Sorry Thom, I was taken in by the bright & shiny. |
Sometimes we all do the Homer Simpson "Ohhhh, shiney".
We ALL do that. |
-For a weekend "fun" toy or something like that that you won't drive very much, it probably isn't such a bad idea. But as a daily driver there are some HUGE negatives about those old Transporters that you probably haven't considered.
1. Not especially easy on gas, compared with modern minivans. 2. VERY scary in strong crosswinds. 3. They have no "smog" equipment, and as such pollute. 4. SLOW. 5. Very unsafe in a frontal collision. No airbag, a metal pole aimed at your chest, and your feet? They are at the scene of the accident at the same time as the front bumper! Broken ankles in even a minor shunt. Cool ride, just make sure you know what you are getting into- N! |

I agree Sandman, I almost bought a 1959 23 Window deluxe from a friend a couple of months ago...
|
Well if you did happen to have a head-on collision, you would certainly be able to smell the breath of the other driver as he is SCREAMING: OOOOO$$$$$$HHHHHHHHIIIIIIITTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Plus be in a good spot to witness it very closely. |
I just don't get it
Sorry to disagree with all of you guys. I didn't like them when they were new (and my parents had a pop top back in the day), and I don't like them now. They do nothing for me. To me, they are old, slow, noisy mass-produced mini-vans. And the fact that some of you would even utter the 930 in the same sentence...oh the humanity! :p |
I'm with Thom, I find it odd that someone would got to the trouble and expense to do that level of resto and put some weird TJ ugly-ass vinyl tufted interior in it. And the Pep Boys steering wheel.
Everything correct is available for these vans, either reproduction or NOS. If you really want to see some nice ones, check some issues of Hot VWs or one of those mags. I only like these things if they are insanely original, or at least correct. The steering wheel that came in it is a simple, beautiful object compared to the one on this van. I'd take Thom's DC w/ the patina any day over the ebay car. |
