I have read and understood this document, and I do read English.

Saw this below the signature line on a car insurance form today.

You want to laugh about this? The damm French are now requiring anyone flying in their airspace to have a pilots license stamped on it saying "this flight crew member speaks English" or they will fine you when you land.

The joke of it is that the majority of the air traffic controllers cannot speak English well enough to order a Subway sandwich.

We have a woman in our subdivision who just won a court case against the home owners association. Her reason for winning? She is Chinese and her lawyer said that she cannot understand the hundreds of violation letters that she has been sent over the condition of her house and non-payment of HOA dues for the last 10 years. BTW, she speaks perfect English when she comes to my house to borrow the phone. Yes, she can afford a half-million dollar house and has no running water inside, no telephone and only intermittent electricity. A packrat who collects trash (its up to the ceilings in every room, stacks of paper and trash) and does not take a shower (no water) and violates 1/3rd of the rules in the neighbourhood regarding the house and now won the lawsuit because she supposedly cannot speak English... and living in Phoenix for the last 20 years.

All kinds in this country...

Yeah, go figure. Only in America you do not have the freedom to live your life as you choose in your own home. :)

Yea, and the neighbours complain about the smell (remember no water turned on there, so she cannot flush the potty nor take a shower) not to mention the mice that seem to like it a lot in the house. If the wind is right you cannot even walk on the sidewalk outside her house.

Firetrap? Yes, the house is packed to the roof in every room with paper and trash and it would go up in 5 minutes if a fire ever starts.

I am all for being able to live as you wish in your house but when it over-powers others and puts them in a dangerous situation thats another story. Not to hijack this thread but we have called the police and they agree but say that its not a health hazard "yet" and are waiting and watching.

All the while she speaks English to the Police but not in court...

Joe,
That's unfortunate. She has a good lawyer, probably made affordable due to the water and electricity savings over the years.

How about the association sending her violation letters in ...... Chinese as per the court ruling? And just to cover themselves, translate into Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese as well. What excuse would she come up with next?

Oh, and suggest to your home owners association to hire a better lawyer, one who can get results in less than 10 years, preferably 3-6 months, and can think out of the box, or at least beyond English, if that's what it takes.

MHO,
Sherwood

What a waste of ink. Like someone who doesn't speak English is going to bother with car insurance ... ;)

Beat the crowd and learn you some Chinese. We will all have to speak it in 20 years anyway...

Why do people feel they need to have something like that? See the current thread here titled something like "is our country f'd?" for the answers...
