Funny how thoughts change

Now that I no longer own a Porsche? I click here...O.T. Don't even bother much with "tech" these days. I mean, let the newbies to 911 ownership figure it out for themselves...poor bastards!

(edit) waiting for the single star...

Aurel 04-26-2008 05:00 PM

You never figured anything else to your 911 than waxing it and changing the oil, poor porscheless old bastard !

Aurel

Gogar 04-26-2008 05:18 PM

I hooked you up, Paul. But I didn't mean it.

I could buy anything Porsche makes...I just don't want it anymore. BTW, have you set valves recently??? I did that in '66....Aurel? Pray tell me how I should have done that...

pwd72s 04-26-2008 05:40 PM

HOORAH! I have EARNED that single star. ;)

Do you miss your 914 at all?

WOW I actually managed to vote twice, somehow. Sorry, it messed up the perfect rating, though!

Mad Mike 04-26-2008 06:48 PM

Seemed to of missed the issue

Paul,

I am not a regular on PPOT, just wondering why someone would grill you for formerly owning a Porsche?

Paul, if he gets your goat, just put him on "ignore".

Just hanging around waiting for the Grim Reaper to take to you the land of eternal sleep, huh?

djmcmath 04-27-2008 05:42 AM

Yeah, it's funny. Before I totaled my '86, I spent a huge amount of time in the tech forum. Now, even though I'm more of a BMW guy these days, and budgets preclude any realistic possibility of Porsche ownership in the near future, I still hang out on a Porsche BB. Weird.

Dan

speeder 04-27-2008 05:56 AM

I'm going to try to stay out of this one.

:D

Put "who" on ignore? ;)

speeder 04-27-2008 06:55 AM

C'mon, can't all you old right-wingers just get along?

Gogar 04-27-2008 08:01 AM

Yeah, can't all you guys without cars get along? ;)

Jims5543 04-27-2008 08:02 AM

Paul, I think your a really cool guy, the posts about Ron a John make me believe your a stand up guy and a lot of fun to be around.

Your closed mindedness about cars is really something else though. you are missing out on so many great cars out there sticking with just one generation of one marque.

I loved owning my hot rodded 911 and hope to own another someday but along the way I have played with many cars, while I am a rotorhead at heart, I see other cars that catch my interest and if I can afford to, give them a try. One thing will always be though, I will always have an RX7. Its just what gets parked next to it in the garage that changes.

Who knows my next Porsche may be a 944 or Cayman or I might mess with an Elise or another MINI Cooper again. So many great cars out there, so little money and time. :D

m21sniper 04-27-2008 08:18 AM

I love my 928, not sure if the neighbors do though. With it's 3" off-road Borla exhaust, it is definitely not subtle. >:}

PS: The part about my neighbors is not true. They all love the Shark, especially the kids.

My wrong, you figured how to wax your car, change the oil AND set the valves.
Did I do it recently? Sure, along with replacing the headstuds, the rings, setting the cam timing, replacing the chains, the ramps, the tensioners, yadi yada...you should come visit the engine rebuilding forum sometime ;).

Not your best side. Musta been a bad day. We all have those.

To the rest of you guys: it just takes a little time to reflect on past decisions and actions. I have done so many ridiculous things "keeping up with the Jones'" that I have to laugh hard at myself. And, at times, I look at others participating in conspicuous consumption with disdain. A double standard, for sure.

Step back, way, way back and look at us as a group that you hang with in person. If you don't hang in person, ignore this. We like the cars, but if the cars were taken away, would you necessarily choose the same acquaintances?

I wouldn't. Paul is feeling this, but you don't need to tell us, man, because it's just gonna get the obvious reaction. We all have to protect our position. :D

Does this make you a better person, a better Porsche owner or what does it do? I mean, I've done all that and twice as much on bodywork, but I'll talk to someone who doesn't own a tool with the same enthusiasm.

Nope, I was just answering Paul`s question.

Very well. His question didn't make sense to me, but if that's the answer, so be it.

VaSteve 04-27-2008 08:56 AM

There was no question. Paul is baiting, pure and simple.

DanielDudley 04-27-2008 11:44 AM

I sold off a bunch of stuff last year, but the only thing I miss is my Euro SC. I still check out the tech forum though, and kick myself for giving up such a fun toy.

My current 911 just happens to be a supercharged Miata. Sort of fell in my lap, and it is fun. Nice people too.
