Septic dog waste system: any good?
I'm looking at getting the Doggie Dooley dog waste system http://uniquedistributors.com/doggiedooley1.html
I have two large dogs and am paying $62.50 every two months to have their waste hauled away. I'll recover my money in no time with a waste disposal system, providing it works. Does anyone have any experience with these?

That has got to be one of the weirdest products on the internet to a non-dog owner like me,

I had one and my single Choc. Lab overwhelmed it in about 1 month.
I use this to clean up after our dog, and just toss the bag in the trash, it takes me about 4 minutes each evening to scoop up the presents. Then every 3 days or so I toss the bag in the trash the night before trash day. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755080 ![]()

Someone here posted a link on a house they were looking at. It had a strange metal lid in the ground. Others here, pointed out that it was a doggy septic tank and said that it becomes quite stinky. I think it was suggested to just throw it over the fence into the neighbors yard.

We had one several years ago when we had two Weimaraners. The concept is pretty cool but you have to keep up on the chemicals. They also can get pretty smelly in the hot weather. We have gone back to the scooping, bagging, and then putting it in the trash.

Technically, we're not allowed to dispose of dog waste in the trash. If the garbage collectors find dog waste in the trash, they can refuse us service. I'd rather play by the rules and have no issues.

1) Get a 5 gallon bucket. Cut the bottom out.
2) Dig a hole. 3) Put bucket in hole. 4) throw some Rid-X in the bucket. 5) Spend the remaning money on Porsche parts.

I can't even imagine how much money some folks here pay for aging pet care, gourmet pet food and now paying to get rid of dog crap.... What in the helll is the world coming to?

Why not just flush it? It's not too different from our crap.

Sometimes simple is better... I am not going to look at it to find out how its different, if at all, from our own human waste.

I get decent dog food but not the most expensive, its called Nutro and it works just fine for her. She only goes to the vet for her shots and when she gets too old I will let go with ease, I love her she is a great dog but I am not going to let her live in pain or in poor health just because I want her around. I thought about a pooper scooping service as a business idea about 10 years ago, I thought it might be a good idea but dismissed it. I am amazed how many well to do people do not scoop their own poo, they actually have a service come and do it for them. I personally like walking around the yard doing it, I berate the dog the entire time and critique her offerings calling some weak, others strong and even some impressive. Its amazing how much poo comes out of one dog.......

Gon fix it with me hammer

just train the mutt in covert ops
then tell him his mission is to poop everywhere but your own house&garden and that you will deny his existence if captured... optional, hand over a ninja mask

Teach him to poop in the street, then it's the cities problem, better yet, the storm drain.

teach the dog to crap outside, and then we just pick it up and carry it back into the house...
didnt a comedian do this skit? seinfeld? i cant believe the city disposal service wont collect dog schit laden house garbage. i would put it into a separate bag and dump it off in a city park garbage can.

I've started walking my dogs every morning before going to work. I end up having to scoop up their poo during the walk, but I actually prefer that over searching and scooping yard truffles* each weekend.
One of my dogs is really neurotic about where she "goes". She has one spot back in the bushes that she always goes. I don't pick that up... it's completely out of the way and isn't going to bother aynyone. The other dog is stunned and completely shameless. It's nothing for him to drop a big steamer right in the middle of the road, when cars have stopped to let us cross. Real classy. About those "dog dooleys" and similar systems... what chemicals do you add to them? I've thought about getting one since I saw that other thread a couple weeks back. My concern is that I'm on a well. *the dumb older dog is a horrible $chit eater. We try to keep the dogs' yard cleared of his favorite dietary supplements, which we refer to as yard truffles.

Could you just dig a hole every month or so and bury a schit-load (sorry) of it? What would be the harm? Seems like the most ecological solution, wouldn't it just turn to soil?
