4 Cam Question
 

I am generally familiar with the 4 Cam Fuhrman motor and its various iterations. However, I have never seen one torn down before. There's a basket case 56 Carerra for sale on ebay and the description includes a shot of this crank assembly:

Does anyone know what the gears near where the rods attached to the journals are for? They seem to be integral to the counterweights. Just curious.

I don't think what you see are gears. The cammer used needle bearings on the rod journals.

I an not 100% sure, but I think those are splined shafts to keep the crank in time.

You're saying the crank is pressed together like a M/c crank? There are needle bearings somewhere in that motor. that I'm pretty sure of.

Yep, the rods are one piece, so obviously the crank must come apart.

I know what you are referring to. The crankshaft obviously must be split at the rod to be able to replace the bearings and or connecting rod. My "guess is that those splines are used to index the crank properly when re-assembling it. It appears as another one is shown loose in the upper right side of the picture.

Yep, you're right on that one. I wasn't thinking.

Wow - I didn't even notice that the rods were one piece - good catch! No wonder they said these mothers were complicated.
