I have a friend who works for Schlumberger as a Mining Engineer and her husband is an oil field engineer. They have lived almost everywhere. From North/South America to Dubai to Shanghai. And they are both of the opinion (well educated opinion) that we have literally hundreds of years worth of oil still left under the ground and the oceans. All this 'we are running out of oil' crap plays right into the hands of those that control the oil.

Nuclear power needs on going research and development. A missed opportunity. In the mean time, how about planting a few shade trees, not driving trucks to the supermarket and not heating homes to 76 degrees in winter? |
The stone age didn't end because they ran out of stones, I doubt the oil age will end because we run out of oil. In the mean time, I'll keep my oil well :D.

I seem to remember GW's energy plan proposals included increased exploration and production of oil off the west coast and in uninhabitted areas of Alaska.
I alsop seem to remember the democrats in congress bowing to the enviro-wackos when they vetoed those proposals, saying no way can we drill for oil in those places. Eventually GW caves into them and gives them what they want, ethanol. Then, they turn around and blame GW because the price of oil shoots up along with food and everything else. Is there any wonder I feel nothing but contempt and disgust for these groups? The truth means absolutely nothing to them. Thier standard MO is to make stupid decisions that have negative ramifications and then blame the other guys for them. |

Granted there is still more Oil in the ground that has been pulled out...the question is how difficult is getting at it and how expensive it will be too pull it out. The easy to get stuff is getting gone.. the history of oil production has been to extract the easy to get and move on to the next easy pickings. Leaving the harder to get stuff behind. That in a sense has keep prices down. Another question is can we keep production at this or a greater level to keep up with demand?
Moving to water, yes we can use desalination of ocean water, but at what cost. Yes moving water is costly as well....The question posed is not that we don't have water but POTABLE water...meaning clean drinkable without dieing from the after effects water. So much of the fresh water in the world has become contaminated with pollution. Also many of the aquifer's are being drawn down because of overuse. |
