Electric clothes drier repair...anybody got a website to trouble shoot?

Stopped blowing warm air suddenly. Got any ideas of where to start? I'm not an appliance repair kinda guy...its about 5 years old. Thermostat? Heating element? Just get another drier?

Put an ohm meter on the heating element?

Do a search on the forums for your model # here
Samurai Appliance Repair Man
It cost $5 to join but the existing posts would be helpful along with the parts diagrams.

Check the thermostat resistor. If you run the dryer 3-4x in a row, it could blow it. It's about a $5-$10 part.

Do a google search for appliance repair and you'll find some sites with pictures and how to locate it. Won't take you but 15min.

I've bought parts from A1 appliance for several things over the years and gotten help troubleshooting.

http://a-1appliance.com/

The last time my 'fridge had a problem, this place was instrumental in me figuring out the problem

http://www.applianceaid.com/

Also, if you do a search for "appliance repair" you get a bunch of hits.

+1 for a-1appliance. I "rebuilt" my dryer a few months ago with parts from there. My dryer stopped heating up because both elements burnt out. Might be a place to start.

How is it wired? It should be on a double breaker, they both go at once. Sounds to me like one leg is tripping allowing the 120v to still operate the motor. You need to check this and the rest of the wiring.

Yup..that was the first thing I checked. More common than you think. Especially if the breaker is tripping.

I had never had a clothes drier fail, so I was suprised at how simple it was. On the heating element side there are very few things to fail. A fuse, two thermostats and the heating element. Used a multi-tester and found no continuity on the thermostat so there was the problem. Took all of 10 minutes. And saved me a $65 service call.

It is like a big toaster with a motor to make it spin, sort of like a VW bug
