My father in Law probably won't make it through tonight

My wife's dad has been battling cancer for a while. He is at the bed-ridden point and is in and out. Rough way to go. Please pray for him and the family.
He is 80, ex vet. I will keep you all posted

Our thoughts and prayers arewith you, your family and him. Having been there, all I can say is make sure he has plenty of pain meds. He doesn't have to be in apin as he passes.

Prayers coming your way.

Stay with him and the family and do what you can do. He will realize this and make it easier on everyone.

Thanks, I also have been there too, my best friend passed in 2001 of lung cancer, he was 38. My father in laws son is giving him meds via a syringe in his mouth, he is not in pain, but is going very fast.

Thoughts and prayer from here too. Godspeed, sir.

Glad to hear you have a good understanding of the situation. I had a similar experience. My father in law died not long ago from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) resulting from multiple myloma. His lungs filled with fluid and just couldn't work any more. When the doctors explained to me what was going on and that he was going to die, no matter what they did, my only questions were does he feel pain and what can we do to prevent it. The answer was that yes, the sensation he would have would be like drowning; his lungs just weren't processing enough air to keep him alive, just like drowning, but that morphine both reduced the sensation of oxygen starvation and masked the pain. My response was "drug him up". I've never made a better decision. We all have to die, when our time comes, it comes. But there is no reason to be in pain when it happens. Morphine is the best thing that can happen in that situation. That and having your hand held and being read to or talked to as the light goes out. That's how I hope to go when my time comes, hopefully many years from now.

Our thoughts are with all of you. We recently lost a friend to cancer who was 36. She left a husband and three boys all under the age of 10. At least your FIL lived to a good age. I hope his last minutes are pain free and rich in loving company.

Prayers made buddy, least I could do.

Well said, when he was coherent the family assured him he is loved and has had a long life, he understood. I hope I make it 80. No matter what age we are, we are terminal

No matter people if people seem they are in a coma, they can understand you to the very end. Holding his hand and telling him that you love him and that his life meant something to U, that he made difference is so important. It is important to both of you, you will be able to go on knowing that it was all said with no refrets later of well I should have said that.

by the way ditto #13
