Ironman - The Movie

Anyone seen it yet? I've read it is one of the best super-hero movies yet. Looks good to me. :)

Took my 15 y/o son and his friend to see it last night. I liked it a lot, a few times the theater erupted into applause during the movie. I thought it was a very fun and enjoyable movie.

I went into the theater not knowing anything about the movie, who was in it etc...

I was pretty amazed at the "look" Jeff Bridges had in his role. Kind of startled me.

I had a lot of fun, it took me away from life for a couple of hours so it did its job entertaining me.

i thought i was going last night...but WIFE pulled a trump card out. she said she would rather see that "maid of honor" movie. (it is her turn to pick) better to drink proseco, and stay clear of any theater at that point. PHEW!

Trailers look great, i plan to catch it this week sometime.

Jims5543 05-03-2008 08:27 AM

I did not and wish I did, but stay through the credits there is a teaser for a sequel after the credits.

I might have to go see it again now so I can see the teaser.

I've seen a few of the commercials on TV. That doesn't look or sound like Robert Downey Jr. to me either...

Macroni 05-03-2008 09:23 AM

9 year old loved it, wife didn't, I thought it was okay built for sequels..Downey was very good. I forgot how pretty Paltrow is .. Audi's are featured A8, A7, S5... One good scene of the A8 and a black rolls blitzing down a road.

Went with some college buddies and we all (suprisingly) loved it! Ive never been a fan of Robert Downey Jr but i think he did a pretty good job. I especially liked that last scene/line of the movie. Highly recommended.

Yes, I saw it yesterday. I like it a lot. And usually I am disappointed by the comic book-turned-movie genre. I thought this was very well done.

A co-worker is very into the old comic books told me about how Iron Man was originally set in the Korean war era. I thought they did a great job of updating it. The special effects were very good of the suit. Check out the woman who plays the magazine correspondent in the beginning and then again for a minute at the end. WOW! This girl is outrageously beautiful. Gynneth Paltrow looked great, but can't hold a candle to this other girl.

All in all, a very likeable movie.

P.S. I'm not sure I've ever seen Robert Downey Jr. give a bad performance.

WSJ gave it a great review this week.

Saw it Thursday night, and absolutely loved it.

One of the things I really like about this kind of super-hero, is that it's just a "normal" guy (with stupidly high intelligence and funds) out doing his thing... no genetic mutations, alien DNA, etc.

I never would have thought Downey Jr. was the right guy for the character, but after seeing it, I can't imagine anyone else playing him.

Caught it last night and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Downey does an excellent job in the role and I didn't recognize it was Jeff Bridges until he opened his mouth. I'm sure a news release will come out by Monday stating that a sequel has ben greenlit by the studio. I forgot about the sequel setup post credits but I already know the scene. Great way to kick off the summer blockbusters....come on May 22!

It was pretty good. Id rank it about a 7 out of 10 as far as films go, maybe 8 out of 10 if you are just talking about action/comic/cgi type films. A 9 out of 10 to me would be the Godfather etc....pretty untouchable stuff.

Jeff Bridges was good, RDjr. was his usual witty charming self. There wasnt a ton of long dialogue and they get to the plot pretty quickly. The effects were excellent, particularly when he was designing the Iron Man suit and testing it (spoiler)... Gwenyth Paltrow was sexy but didnt have a lot of meat to her role, more eye candy/love interest thing but she was good. The beautiful girl who played the media person was ok, i found her to be annoying actually and not a great actress, but she was there to look good and for the Iron Man to have a one nighter with.

Overall it was a good start to this franchise.

We wanted to take our 4.5 year old so I was sort of checking it out for my wife.

The sexual scenes did not bother me, but the killing and burning did, so did the scene in the village where they are lining up people to be executed. It was a little too intense for a little kid.

Too bad, he was all pumped up from the commercials.

Jims5543 05-03-2008 04:02 PM

IMHO - Sex does not equal bad.

Killing people does.

How America got so twisted to think that showing a man kissing a breast is bad but a man cutting one off is o.k. is beyond me.

I'll take sex any day over violence.

BRPORSCHE 05-03-2008 04:11 PM

I agree with you Jim. The execution style killing in the village sure would prompted some questions from your son. It was still tough for me to watch that.

Jims5543 05-03-2008 06:15 PM

I have to say when the stripper pole appeared in the plane.....

I almost fell out of my seat laughing.

Sonic dB 05-03-2008 06:30 PM

it was a funny scene and well done.. :)
Im going back to edit my previous comments cause i dont want
this thread to get off track of the movie

It was like a cross between Transformers and The Wrong Trousers.
