Mvp

It's about time...Kobe has been the best player in the NBA for years.

the 05-07-2008 07:24 PM

Best player for years - yep. Most valuable during those years? Debatable.

Hard to win MVP when you are the best player in the league, but your team is still not making the playoffs, or is barely squeaking in as a low seed and flaming out the first round, like they were doing the last few years.

This year, though, the MVP award for him was really indisputable. That team has made one of the most amazing transformations in less than one year.

Difficult to honor a man with such low moral standards...regardless of ability to play ball.

the 05-07-2008 07:42 PM

I guess. Although more than half of American men cheat on their spouses . . . and have no jump shot.

fintstone 05-07-2008 07:47 PM

He was accused of raping a 19 year old...who decided not to testify after coming into some money.

the 05-07-2008 07:55 PM

yeah, I remember that. 19 year old who works at the hotel goes out of her way, tracks him down, makes the first move, approaches him, they go to his room alone and have sex.

Rape? Maybe, maybe not. My guess under those facts? Probably not. But innocent people get accused of things all the time, means nothing.

fintstone 05-07-2008 08:06 PM

Too much physical injury to be consensual IMHO. Even if not rape...he is a dirtbag for taking advantage of a 19 yr old....and a dirtbag for cheating on his wife.

the 05-07-2008 08:20 PM

The woman was a total nutjob, who was in a mental ward. She had previously tried to kill herself on numerous occasions. The underwear she wore to the exam the day after the supposed rape had the love juice and pubes of some white dude in them. She filed a civil lawsuit (unusual during a pending criminal case) to try to shake him down. She admitted she sought him out, they kissed and messed around.

Yeah, she was 19, but he was only 25.

Dirtbag for cheating on his wife? I guess, but we're a nation of dirtbags so he's not really much different than most. A 25 year old guy out on the road for his job, having sex with a stranger in his hotel room. Not really earth-shattering.

His biggest mistake was not doing what Michael Jordan did - have your bodyguards all around in the room next door to be witnesses that nothing non-consensual happened - and to hand the gals a $1000 piece of jewelry on their way out the door.

Bird. Jordan was great but the lid came off. I can't believe it's still an activity.

Chris Paul! CP3! Kobe might have to show who's best.

Tobra 05-07-2008 10:52 PM

I would say Chris Paul also. Kobe may very well be the best player in the league, but Paul is a better team player, elevates his team mate's level of play, had a larger positive impact on his team, guess it is how you define MVP.

As far as the mentally disturbed young lady from Colorado, as I understand it, the vaginal intercourse was consensual, the anal intercourse was not, which is rape. The trial was a joke, is the woman who let the victim's name slip still practicing law? I would hope not.

gprsh924 05-08-2008 03:40 AM

I think Kobe still elevates his teammates. If you have watched any of the playoff games, every time down the court the entire defense will collapse on Kobe, so even when doesn't actually score or get the assist, he is usually the reason why someone was open.

On a related note, as a team, the Lakers' ball movement in the playoffs has been superb.

I loved this comment from a morning radio show:

"Kobe gave his thanks to all his teammates for helping him win the MVP. To show his gratitude, next year he plans to learn all his teammates names."

Paying taxes is like sex with Kobe Bryant.

You may not want to do it....but it is gonna happen.
