Travel expense & wedding gift for friends wedding

I'm spending around $1000 to attend a friends wedding in June. Is my presence my present or should I be gift shopping also? This is his second wedding and they really don't have any needs.

Get him a gift, talk about business or do something office related and write off the travel

Send a gift. Skip the wedding. Use difference to treat yourself.

Tell him he doesn't have to buy you a gift for being the best man again and hopefully he will let you off the hook for another wedding gift

Wedding gifts do not have to be expensive, just meaningful. Particularly if you are the best man.

Yes, you need to bring a gift. It doesn't have to be expensive. Just give them something nice as a token of your friendship.

We've started donating to charities as wedding gifts, mostly because it's so hard to avoid buying crap that they probably already have. Added bonus is that once we donate over $400, we get a significant % back as a tax rebate.

That or a waffle maker. Who the heck doesn't like waffles??

Then he should be picking up the tab for your travel.

I'm a little bafffled as to why my hotel (La Quinta) costs $54/night, but the cheapest car I can find is $61.

Lee:
Give him cash. At least enough to cover your plate at the reception, and then a little more. Or, much more, if you feel you should.
