Time article: The clean energy scam
Normally, I don't pay Time much attention, but a friend pointed me to this incredibly insightful article. Don't know if any of you read Time, but it discusses the true environmental impact of "clean and green" energy:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1725975,00.html So interesting how politicians and greenies focus on our evil cars that put out compartively little carbon emissions when HUGE swaths of carbon-reducing rainforests get destroyed every year. When was the last time you heard a "Save the Rainforest" campaign? Oh that's right...it was a cause d'jure in the 80s that everyone has left behind to join the Global Warming anti-industry/anti-car religious crusade. The article is long but very eye opening and I'm curious to see reactions to it. Last edited by jkarolyi; 05-12-2008 at 07:22 AM.. |

I didn't open the link, but I'm getting real tired of all the green talk. On a TV show about kitchens, the owners were calling their huge kitchen "green" because they had bamboo floors and low VOC paint. The thing will produce more emissions than a dozen cars when in full use with it's commercial gas range and multiple duplicate appliances. Not to mention the wood burning pizza oven/fireplace.
Give me a break. If I see another green sign at the Home Defect, I'm going to ask where I can buy dirty stuff. |

The article gets the economics right. The science, I'm not so sure about.
These kinds of articles seem to presume that every single atom of carbon released into the atmosphere by human activity is measured and accounted for--then they completely ignore nature's part.

It is the stuff you do every day that has the big impact on the environment.
Hang clothes to dry, rather than in clothes dryer, turn thermostat up a few degrees in summer, down in winter, buy local produce, shut down electronics and unplug them when not in use, nuke, solar, wind or any alt energy source(screw that ethanol as fuel nonsense)

Ibought a solar heating system for my pool yesterday, so that will save energy.
uinfortunately the materials are made from fossil fuels and it will require burning fossil fuels to deliver it but look at the bright side, it will absorb radiant heat so I figure I will single-handedly take care of that global warming thing this summer. You're welcome ![]() |

yep it's all about balance. I figure the lower emissions from running used canola in my car counteract heating my house by burning used tires in an outdoor furnace. It all evens out in the end.

I have no problem looking for better and cleaner ways to do things, but stop shoving it down our throats every five seconds. The marketing scams, err schemes are retarded when it comes to products. Every douchebag now has to put some green twist on their crap.
Piss off! Hello Monday!

Could this be a part of an economic battle? The USA has moved to "sustainable" fuel in an effort to economically combat the high price of oil and the weaker dollar? Not to start a conspiracy, but to me the price of oil and the weak dollar don't make a lot of sense.

Our statewide fishwrap now has a liberal lady writing a "green" column. One of her suggestions was to stop buying water in plastic bottles, use a refillable metal container instead. Gee! What a new idea! I'm going to dig my old WWII surplus (aluminum) canteen out of the garage...it looks really cute in it's olive drab canvas
carrier. ![]()
