Barr to announce Libertarian White House bid
By BEN EVANS – 56 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr has announced that he's running for president as a Libertarian.

His candidacy would be a wild card in the White House race and many believe it would hurt Republican Sen. John McCain.

Barr made the announcement Monday at a news conference. He first must win the Libertarian nomination at the party's national convention that begins May 22. Party officials consider him a front-runner thanks to the national profile he developed as a Georgia congressman from 1995 to 2003.

Barr, 59, helped lead Bill Clinton's impeachment. He quit the Republican Party two years ago, saying he had grown disillusioned with its failure to shrink government and its willingness to scale back civil liberties in fighting terrorism.

Don't know much about him but I like the last sentence. It reflects my sentiments as well.

+1 Of course, it just helps the socialists, which is not good.

He's pretty conservative but has a couple of social-hot-button skeletons in his closet.

McCain still moonwalks into the White House, saving us the having to change it's name as Obama would no doubt insist upon.

Any announcement for a presidential campaign that has to begin with a description of who the candidate is so people know who the announcement is talking about does not bode well for the campaign.

Ron Paul is still in it to win it I believe. Did Godzillary concede? I count 5, Ms Clinton, Mr Obama, Mr Paul, Mr McCain and apparently Mr Barr(any kin to Roseanne?

not a bad guy.

in my precinct, one lone republican vote doesn't count for much. barr might be a legitimate protest vote.

Hard to imagine the McCain camp being too happy about this news. Wasn't Nader planning to muck things up too?

A vote for this guy or Ron Paul is basically a vote for Obama hussein, which is an act of evil IMO ;)

I've met Bob Barr a few times. He's a good guy, but he has no chance. And his cameo in Borat might hurt him too.
