1000 s/f in SoFLA and a 2.5 ton unit won't keep it cool. I'm upgrading to a 4 ton unit:

What a jerk.

FWIW, I had a tiny window AC unit in a 20 x 30' workshop with good insulation and it did fine on the 90+ humid days. The fan took a crap at the end of last summer, so I will be buying another sub $200 unit this summer to replace it. The insulation seems to really make a big difference.

Thanks, Danny. Love ya, man. I'll definitely credit you with the assist on that one.

I just got served;)

Decisions, decisions: Just before I was born, God explained the package deal and asked if I wanted a 4 inch penis and 1000 s/f garage or a 400 s/f garage and "do the math," he chuckled.

I made my choice.:D

LMFAO! man did this go down the pooper fast! right on jeremyd!

i guess we are now judged by the size of our garage not our vehicles nor our penis's!

my rattlesnakes are bigger than your rattlesnakes nany nany boo boo! top that one!

gatotom 05-13-2008 09:21 AM

That's it, I am taking my bat and going home, if I can't hit your ball.............

Children, Children, cool the jets.

By the way, nice garage JeremyD, way nicer than mine, I still have plain ol' concrete for a floor and still no sheetrock on the walls. I guess I don't spent that much time in the garage....I just drive the damn thing.

Tomorrow I go over to the sailboat and haul it out for a new coat of bottom paint and get a dripless shaft seal installed, IMHO way more fun than turning wrenchs on a car. Last week I replaced my tie rods and control arms on my Audi, I couldn't believe how bad the tie rods were flopping around, 92K on the car.

Was Danny serious?

JeremyD 05-13-2008 10:03 AM

Hey - I just scored a $200 Portable AC unit - that's all - We will see if it works - may or may not.

As far as a bottom job on the sailboat vs wrenching on the p-car - I'd rather do track prep on the p-car - in AC comfort - buhaa haaa haaa!

I'm over it - Thanks for playing. :)

I dunno...seems everyone here can joke around and give sheet, but when I say something it turns into a dog-pile. I just made a comment about the A/C unit he bought (to save him some grief and time) then Gogar had to start with his jab. Downhill from there...plenty of jealous, thin-skinned folk around these parts.

Oh well. No-one ever promised me that life at the top would be easy...

P.S. - My dick is only 3", but some women like 'em that wide. SmileWavy

My other home. Six miles of desert between me and town. I'll bet my rattlesnakes are bigger:

Actually, it's 1700 s/f, but I'm not counting the 2nd flr. That has a separate A/C unit.

Gogar 05-13-2008 10:29 AM

Sorry, Danny. I don't think I was trying to jab at you specifically, you were just standing there. But then you totally proved my point OVER and OVER and OVER with each successive post. I'm not trying to create a dogpile or anything; I was just kinda snarky last night when I made my post and you were dry as a bone and not into my attempt at humor. That's all. We'll all be ok.

And thanks for the picture of your enormous penis. In fact,I've created a M4T ad with it on my local Craigslist. :)

charleskieffner 05-13-2008 10:31 AM

my rattlesnakes KNOW KUNG FOO!

berettafan 05-13-2008 10:36 AM

there was nothing wrong with Danny's initial post.

Gogar's comment, while quite funny, was not really warranted as a reaction to Danny's comments.

The 'doing well' comments, i thought, were said in jest. i can't imagine anyone saying such a thing in a serious manner.

The pm-ing of certain pictures....i dunno that's maybe just a teency bit (ooh, that was kinda funny eh?) odd.

both of these guys live in Fla. and it would be nice for them if they could be friendly and enjoy a visit now and then (not gonna speak for Jeremy on this but i'm guessing he'd ask Danny to leave the wiener pics at home) as Porsche friends are pretty hard to come by. it would be nice if the peanut gallery would make an effort to understand nuance and not try to create animosity between to neighbors.

But really, any time you de-humidify a florida garage you are doing something good. temp almost doesn't matter at that point right?

Thank you for seeing things how they really are and with a level head.

Each successive post was in response to attacks. That's how I roll. There's always someone bigger/badder.

Against my better judgement - I at least wanted to report my results.

Facts: garage is 22 x 24 with ceilings that are 12'9"

Garage doors (2- 9'x9') are insulated.

Interior of the garage is painted - floor is greg smith equipment bigfoot tile.

Portable AC is an edgestar 1200 btu model. It has an integrated catch pan, automatic controls. I made a vent outside the garage using a dryer connector. I also plumbed a overflow drain - but the connector to the unit sizing was not correct - so I ended just discharging into a seperate pan.

On Friday night I wanted to put a coat of wax on the 911. I decided at 8:10 pm to turn the AC on to see how it would do. At the time it was 86 degrees in the garage - and with the wind that we have had out of the southwest over the past three days - VERY humid.

At 11:10 - Exactly three hours of run time - the garage was 78 degrees (still running full blast) and more importantly - I had emptied the water collection pan twice so the unit pulled a TON of humidity out of the air.

Usually - by the end of my wax job, I would be dripping with sweat and would need a shower before hitting the bed - but not the case now :)

So - I do consider my purchase a success. I also think that if I can get 6+ hours of run time (and definitely get the overflow plummed outside) that I can probably get that figure a little better (or be able to deal with the summertime heat)

I typically do my maintenance in the summer on the P-car because I don't drive it much then - too friggin hot - way to much rain. Have a good day all...

berettafan 05-20-2008 07:16 AM

phew, reminds me of why i never want to live in fla.

can you put a hose on the drain thingy so you don't have to empty the bin?
