Well my final P-car in the stable goes to a new home tomorrow
....it was time to let go of the past and even though I shall probably be on a total downer after delivery it really is for the best. There will be more P-cars for me. I have been without them before and survived and I will manage....as I have already bought something I consider very special which can plug the gap for a while (and fits everyone in). As of last night I am the proud owner of my next project car - a 1974 3.0L CSA BMW. Do not lecture me about rust - I know ALL about rust; have had nightmares about it in 356s in years gone by (and early 911s). I know E9s rust and badly...but this baby has been in "dry" storage for years and has done a genuine 148,000kms. It is supposedly very solid in the body, but I'll make that call when I manage to get a really good look under the rotten water holding body deadener that BMW had the 'wisdom' to use on these cars. The engine is apart, comes with a spare engine and 4sp gearbox and a host of other goodies. Needs paint. Nothing missing. Engine blueprinted, balanced etc years back by the Alpina agents in Sydney. Has history. Is a genuine Australian delivery. Fits the definition of "barn find"... No pics for you guys yet - sorry . They'll be plentiful once I get it home (it's over 4 hours away and in bits on a farm - gonna be fun picking it up ).Pearls of wisdom from the kids about the new toy - Billy (8) - Mum when are you going to buy another 911? Charlotte (10) - Mum that's ugly; what is it? Tom (15) Whoa that is SO COOOOL - when do we pick it up??? Can I have it when you've finished it? Anyway, another "adventure" begins...thought I should share with you guys .Cheers, Lisa Last edited by lisa_spyder; 05-14-2008 at 05:24 AM.. |

Thanks guys - I think it's gonna be very cool too
.BTW - these cars are eligible for historic racing category group SC down here...choices to be made once we get hold of her. Stock, low km, genuine history car or historic racer. Nice predicament to be in! I should have some pics by the weekend I hope. I intend to document this rebuild on our blog anyway, so the camera will be getting a good workout. Colour is Granatrot (garnet red metallic) with grey velour interior. Has BBS alloys (14 x 7). Lots of nice bits and pieces but most of it is apart. Now I have a real excuse to spend some quality time in the shop out of hours when the kids are tucked up in bed .Fun times ahead! |

Noah - if only!!!
Those things rock!!!!! My new baby is 'only' a CS....still a pretty baby though. Mike is already thinking about the bottom end of the motor - you know, since it's already apart and all that. I sure as hell expect that he should be thinking about that too. Nothing like the "while I'm in there" especially since we can do it all ourselves. damned targa kept me poor for 4 years and the csa was long gone by then

It's not much to go on...
I only have little pics from the seller so far....at least it's something!
![]() So today I deliver this: ![]() ...and tomorrow I start furiously making space for the CS which is going to help take the sting out of selling the 356 Special. My choice, my call but a part of me will go with that little silver car . That's always the way though.Cheers guys! |

Sorry I don't know much about BMWs although my mom owned a 3.0CS around the time I was born!
Here are some pics of a local car I took a year ago, is this close to your color? ![]()

That looks like great fun, Lisa. You and Mike should have a good time bringing that car to life. And your son Tom's comments gave me a huge smile. You know he's got the right idea!

Do a search...it's a famous car, built by a man Lisa will love forever.
Lisa...I have a small idea of the angst you are going through right now. I do think this will end up being good for you. I certainly hope so. As for myself? Crazy as it sounds, my thoughts often return to a 1950 Ford Coupe... Best to you and yours, Lisa... Paul

Jess, OMG that car is gorgeous! I'm getting all warm and gushy looking at that
! Not quite the colour I think, I have posted on the E9 forum and one of the guys has very kindly posted a photo of a Granatrot CS: Very cool that your Mum owned a CS.![]() Apparently a very rare colour; the car is in original livery now, but the pics that I have aren't great. Happier now that I have this pic to gaze upon... David, the silver car has quite a story to it. It was Dad's baby for a very long time (he built it for himself), hence Paul's comment about the car being built by a man I shall love forever - very, very true. I shall tell more about it, but can I let a couple of weeks go by as I have just got back from handing the keys over... Paul, It's a bittersweet feeling - you would know more than most what I mean . But I know myself better than anyone and have protected myself very nicely this time. On the long drive home, I was swinging from despair to elation. Buying the CS was the best thing I could do to keep me happy . I am genuinely excited about the CS. I have always wanted one and now I get to have some fun putting it all back right.Go buy/build yourself a 1950 Ford Coupe! Do it! Get your butt in one asap so that everytime you take it for a drive (or even look at it) it brings a smile to your face . Tobra, I like Alpinas too... rare little beasties they are. Jim, Tom does have the right idea - but if he wants in on this one he'd better get his overalls on and help .Cheers fellas, Off to a car club meeting to both lament and celebrate! Lisa |

I can't imagine being rid of the 356 was easy, but the E9 is a sweet little car. Probably my favorite classic BMW. Nice choice!
