PDF file editor?
 

Let me start by sayign that I HATE PDF files!:mad:

I have a 19 page legal document that I need to edit. Basically, series of questions that I need to answer. I would like to insert them directly into the document, but can't find any programs that will let me type in text while pushing the next question down for each line or making space for the answers.

Does such a program exist?

Adobe Acrobat.

But the file you have may be "locked" and you can't edit it anyways.

PDF's can be used in the way you want, if the creator took the time to build it as a proper interactive form.

PDF's can be built from just about anything including a scanned paper document which would not be editable under any circumstances.

Even if you had Acrobat Pro you still might not be able to edit.

Part of the concept of a PDF is a readily distributable platform independent read only file.

Basically they don't want you to be able to edit it.

I've had some luck saving a PDF as TIF file and then using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert it to Word. I think 19 pages you would have to run 19 times - ooh but now I remember.

I saved as TIF files (it would be 19 saves), then in Paint Shop Pro I stitched then altogether into one mongo TIF file, then ran the OCR.

The OCR software came with the scanner.

If you have Acrobat (not the free acrobat reader), you should be able to insert comments (like sticky notes) into the document. But what it sounds like you are looking for is something to convert the .pdf into an editable document

If you type "pdf editor" into Google, you'll get about 17 million hits, of which there are a number of free and low cost pdf editor packages.

This one says it will convert a pdf file into a word document for $29. Probably worth a try.

Something like that, yes.

I've treied a few so far, including Acrobat....and something that claimns to be a PDF to Text converter. Can't get them to work....they convert PDF to "nothing" in a text format.
I'll try that PDF to Word.

It sounds like you do have Acrobat. If so, goto Tools -> Typewriter. You won't be able to "insert", but you have a little room between the lines to add some text. It may work. Or, try Tools -> Commenting. The docs were scanned into a PDF file.
