Need a NYC hotel recommendation for the family
Hello folks,
Need the Pelican braintrust! Really don’t know what to do here. Family of four, staying two nights in NYC mid week in mid June. After paying hotel bill, want to have money leftover to take kids to a Broadway show one evening. I don’t need (and can’t afford) Park Avenue, but need to feel safe in the hotel and the surrounding area. Looking at the hotel websites dont answer that question. Mid town location preferrable I guess. Haven’t got a clue on this. Any help, much appreciated. Curt |

Make sure and stay in the "city". (Manhattan.)
Staying out by the airport or Jersey is not worth the trouble. Too much time back and forth.. Look below 33rd Street. There are a few mid-priced hotels. Good luck. |

Try the "W" very nice.
Marriott Marquis as well. Both are where you want to be. Times Square ain't the Times Square of old. Disney has moved in.

take a look at the Affinia Manhatten. it's across the street from MSG. As NYC hotels go it's huge! they even have kitchenettes. Studio,1&2 br suites. about 10-12 blocks from heart of broadway.

+1 for the W; Daughter and I went for her birthday, stayed at W The Court, 39th and Lex. Two easy blocks from Grand Central to go everywhere. Reasonable rates, large room, quiet neighborhood.

We stayed at the Milford Plaza last summer. It's right in mid town just a block from most Broadway shows and times square. The hotel isn't supper nice but it was about the cheapesst I could find in the area.

I haven't been too active in the karting for the last two years, so I don't know who the latest drivers are. They're racing at Oak Hill (my favorite track) this weekend and I'm going to miss it too

I was in the city a month ago and stayed at the "Ameritania", on 54th and Broadway.
It was kind of nice because it's . . . just far enough away from Times Square to be not annoying, but it's still a very short walk to all the theaters, etc. and a short walk to the park as well. And, if you wanna see the Letterman Show its about 20 feet away. I thought it was ok; and it comes in under $200 which is pretty hard to do in NYC. http://www.ameritaniahotelnewyork.com/ If you don't want to go botique-y, you can always do the Sheraton New York or the Hilton New York; in the same neighborhood. Both are very busy and very touristy, but with the kids, maybe that's ok. And +1 for the W; but get out your platinum card.

Last trip to NYC we stayed at the Embassy Suites in lower Manhatten near the WTC. Reasonably priced and a really nice place with a view of the water. Hilton points, too!

+1 on the Ameritania.
I run into Slick Willie in the elevator all the time as he runs out for a late night cheeseburger. He keeps a suite there 24/7..... |

I had a fairly large room at the W off Lexington but the walls were paper thin. I would not stay there again if it were up to me.
