My craigslist score for the garage
You have to live in a warm climate to appreciate having ac in the garage. When we remodeled the house I had them upgrade the garage doors to insulated doors.
I scored a 12000 btu portable AC unit woo woo - already getting warm in florida... ![]()

How big is your garage? That may help, but it ain't gonna cool much. We use those as temporary cooling systems in server rooms that are waiting for A/C repair. It will keep a small (8' x 8') reasonably cool.

In respect for the current PPOT "climate" (Ha! See the tie in?)I wanted to
beat you down and tell you how stupid you are and toot my own horn for my personal knowledge of portable cooling units and post a picture of my bigger more expensive portable AC unit, But instead, I'm willing to buck the trend and say Looks great, Jeremy!!! Congrats, buddy!

I have been thinking about getting something like that but bigger for my garage. I have a big swamp cooler but once it gets really hot it does not help with the humidity.
Good score!

I actually have one of those for sale right now. We used it to cool an upstairs bonus room in our last house. Ours heats also, FWIW. It works well in that it will blow some seriously cold air, but I think it would struggle to cool a garage. It might take the edge off, for sure, though.

Nomination for Post of the Year. Don't think it will win, but funny as heck (only 'cause it's true). good way to start the day with a smile.

Absolutely. Ours will remove a tremendous amount of water from the air per day. In fact, it filled up so quickly, the unit would shut off. We rigged up a drain line into a larger drain pan to extend the run times...

HE HE - I come back to this -

Greg Smith Equipment - Bigfoot - it’s great stuff - easy to clean - doesn’t buckle when you put a hot car in - didn’t have to prep much. Look on ebay – sometimes they will throw a lot on there - and when you call the store directly they will honor the price (mine was around a 1.39 sq foot) Quote:

an air conditioned garage! WOW! my 2 car garage has (1) car in it 5 tons of crap and a freezer(elk-deer still left). girlfriend wants me to move from my living room(drumset stays):
1) 1983 husky 500 baja winning bike in living room locked to stand. concours frame up resto. 2) giant monster very very very heavy gunsafe. 3) a smaller but very heavy corner gunsafe. now maybe i can convince her i need an a/c unit for my garage. present method of staying cool in garage when its freeking 118 degrees F., is to stick upper body into freezer.............grab (2) beers. (1) goes in cool cup, (1) gets inhaled..........repeat. jump in pool every 1/2 hour on the 1/2 hour! repeat aforementioned body in freezer grab beers drill. nights are especially fun when all sorts of critters come out due to lights on. very entertaining taking wd-40 and immoliating scorpions/centipedes with lighter. flame cooks them so hot it leaves an outline just as if you have drawn a scorpion/centipede on the concrete! |

400 s/f? You obviously aren't doing well. 1000 s/f in SoFLA and a 2.5 ton unit won't keep it cool. I'm upgrading to a 4 ton unit: ![]() |

Now you are being a dick - and for no reason. Good for you and your 1,000 sq feet - I'm doing just fine thank you very much - even better when I don't have to deal with dickheads on the internet.

Did similar when I lived in Florida. Actually had them add a separate unit for garage when building the home.
Good job. You will enjoy it. |
