Flower Scent

What is your favorite, if you have a favorite, is there a why it is your favorite?

When I was a young kid, I always loved the scent of lilac bushes that I walked passed on my way to/from school.

hmm, picking a favorite is very difficult. Jasmine, Honeysuckle, and Gardenia are all tied for the lead. Orange blossom would probably come in second to the above.

I guess because growing up, I've been around them at various times, and they smell really good.

On a vaguely related note, I find the smell of strawberries intoxicating, but they aren't flowers.

Gardenia.

My grandmother grew them and they have remained my favorite, most nostalgic scent. Their fragrance always brings back memories of hot summer days on the outskirts of Dallas; like instant access to some really old files stored in my brain.

Living in citrus country, there's nothing like driving along on a warm may/June day smelling the orange blossoms from the Valencia groves.

Mornings in Hawaii when the air is still, there is nothing like the smell of mango blossoms.

AV Gas, MEK, Klotz R50 2 -stroke oil, burned gunpowder and model airplane fuel..... makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I guess I somehow missed out on learning about flower types/smells as a kid. (not that there is anything wrong with that )

If that thing smells so good, why the gas mask?

I have read that scent is one of the more powerful senses with respect to its ability to make you call forth a memory

That's a Titan arum or "corpse flower".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_arum

Apparently it smells like a rotting corpse.

Besides its putrid scent, it has "the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world".
