michelle and i are leaving in a few hours for Orlando Florida tonite, should pull into town late sunday.
we'll be there until the 24th if anyone wants to meet up for coffee, lunch, or dinner.
we have a few things scheduled but have a pretty open schedule for the coming week, so if anyone wants to meet up shoot me a pm.
i'll have internet access on my phone and should have access with our comp in the condo we rented for the week

we're driving the 06' jetta....so no p-car, my 911 is waiting for a new O2 sensor along with some other goodness, at least it's german

I'm very interested in your observations once you get a good take on things down there. My woman and i are also seriously considering a move to Orlando, most likely at the end of the Fall.

just got the computer hooked up, we are staying in a friends sheraton timeshare (they couldn't make it so they gave us their week for $300 )
this place is sweet.....2000+ sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full everything, screened-in balcony, granite counters, jakuzi tub, giant walk in shower
i'll post some pics tomorrow....gotta wind down.....
made the 1,030 mile trip in about 17 hours strait.....this was with numerous stops (i don't smoke in the new jetta) and for fuel and such.
still need to figure out the mileage we got, fuel cost varied between $3.55-$3.99/gal.....

we came down I-77, then cut over to I-95 in south carolina, then came down 4 into orlando from daytona, just dodged a viscous storm too in jacksonville

more to come......i need a beer

I am 2 hours South of you and we are experiencing some nice typical Florida summer weather, this should give you good insight as to what our summers are like.

man what a day......we were out checking a few houses/neighborhoods and such and the tranny in our 2006 jetta took a crap. "it's the most advanced auto tranny vw ever made"....apparently it's not so great, it felt like the servo which kicks it into the forward gears died, revs but no go.....
hopefully it won't be a big headache as it is currently at a local VW dealer and being fixed under warranty, they also provided us with a 2008 jetta to drive while it's being fixed, i'm just hoping it's ready by thursday so i can drive it before we make the trip back home to make sure it's ok.....worse case we'll have to spend a little extra time here.....but don't want to spend the extra $$$ to do so.
i basically found a dealer using the internet on my cell, called the service manager (because he is the guy who has all the authority in that department), after explaining my situation he said to just get the car to him, it's under warranty....so far so good, they spoke a promising game, they'll get a nice letter if they come through

so today we saw a few houses and spent the afternoon dealing with some really pleasant people in a potentially problematic situation..........the dealer will be calling me with a dignostic either tonite or early tomorrow, so let's all cross some fingers for me

the traffic didn't seem to horrible yet, tomorrow we are heading up to ocala as i have a company who REALLY wants me to come work for them, we'll see if they pay
if i take a job in ocala we'll probably move to either howie in the hills or tavaras......which we're going to check out on the way home from ocala.....

Tavares is where Martin Sports Car Club is based out of, I like that area a lot and if I had to move up that way thats where I would end up. Very country out there once you get off of 441.

Sorry about your car, I got stuck out of town with my last month and it took them a week to fix the ignition, I hope yours goes better.

How about the weather? This is as bad as it gets here, we are in a heatwave of sorts right now, which is typical for Florida.

I do not like Ocala a lot its very far from anything except maybe Gainesville. Your looking in the right place in Lake County. Good luck!!

thanks......if the money is right then a commute to ocala is an option, later this week we are heading to her brothers in pt st lucie on the coast, there are a ton of audio shops down there as well, i'll be checking with my contacts (a couple friends at mfg's) as far as who does the biggest numbers... and we'll see if they pay.

although the broken tranny sucks.....it happened at the BEST possible time, our first day here....... the dealership has a full week to fix it, if it happened the day before we are to leave it would've royally f***ed us....let alone if it happened in bum f*** in the middle of nowhere.....
just for kicks we went to the local walmart to get some snacks and such.....made us feel like we were in the movie "shaun of the dead", basically just like home

the weather is awesome, only mod i'll really need for the 911 is a fan for the oil cooler.....and a hat to protect my head from the sun

It's May...

I guess when you spend summers in NC, you forget about June, July & August! And Orlando doesn't get the tradewinds we on the coast get.

Whew!

On the other hand, I'll take a hot Orlando summer day over two fists full of frozen knuckles anytime!

Yup its May and I work outside every day for the last 15 years, and mid 90's with 100% humidity is a typical summer day. My wife and kids spent the summer there for the last 2 years (we are in the middle of selling the place) and I ran back and forth.

I know what summer weather is and this is it. Mid 90's 100% humidity. By August Sept we are ready for a break but its still mid 90's 100% humidity.

I also lived in Altomonte Springs and a summer there was probably the hottest I ever been through in Florida.

BTW - PSL is turning upside down right now with the housing crash. PSL's #1 industry used to be building houses and that has shut down. The area is in pretty bad shape money wise.

You might want to look in Martin County with the possibility of a commute to Palm Beach County, more money down that way.

It's not the temp/humidity, it's the sun. You can stand in the sun in May here, without a hat, and it isn't a problem. By August, you can feel the sun burning right through your clothes. Your scalp gets sun-burned without a hat (and no, I'm not bald). The air temp is regulated by the ocean temps, but the sun is brutal as the earth tilts towards it and there's no escaping it, unless you are inside.

May 15th 2008 sunrise 0533 sunset 1902

August 15th 2008 sunrise 0552 sunset 1858 <--- thats about 1/2 hour less daylight.

Sorry, by August 15th the sun has already begun descending into the Southern sky and the days are getting shorter. I tend to sun burn more now than in Aug / Sept.

By about June 12 we have our earliest sunrise and by July 4th we have our latest sunset. The summer solstice occurs on June 20th, and every day past it the sun descends into the Southern Hemisphere.

So basically its your imagination that the sun is higher in the sky, you are however correct about the ocean temps being higher thus we do not cool down as much at night and our daytime temps rise much quicker later in the summer BUT they rise to about the same temps we have been seeing lately.

Remember I work outside for a living I tend to notice this stuff.

You might want to go back over to Jeremy's thread and fight about a/c units now.

Whatever. I work outside too. It's hotter here, due to the angle of the sun, in June, July, August.

http://countrystudies.us/united-states/weather/florida/fort-lauderdale.htm

That's all.

I love sexual intellectuals.

My original statement was we are experiencing summer like temps, so you will get a good feel for what it is like in the summer here because its warmer than normal.

I still feel this is a true statement but, as usual, you felt a need to single out one post and pick it apart and begin an e-fight with your cute little smiley's and all.

You chart proves my point, in June the nighttime temps drop lower and the daytime is normally not as high, but the sun is up higher in the northern sky and up there longer. I tend to burn this time of year and have to be careful to wear sunscreen even though its NORMALLY not as warm. That helps contribute to a sunburn because you do not feel the sun as much even though it is there longer and stronger than in the late summer.

Here you go here is my chart with the sunrise sunset times to prove my point.
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/aa_rstablew.pl

Oh and here is the official date of the summer solstice (on June 21st) once again proving my point, you decided to pick this e-fight I am just backing up my facts.
http://www.hermetic.ch/cal_sw/ve/ve.htm

Now go find a post somewhere else so you can tell us how much better you are than use mere mortals with measly incomes and small houses.

How big was your garage?
