Cool, little, cheap video camera: Flip Video

I just got mine from Amazon--pretty cool and gets great reviews...could be cool to mount for track days. Check it out. No affiliation.

I want to say Duke Zink is using something like that his video quality was very good.

Can you give us a sample of the recording quality? I saw these in Costco some time ago and was tempted to get one but did not at that time.

2-gig of internal memory with no option for SD or similar memory cards.
This means once your device is full (~60 minutes), you must go dump it into a computer somewhere.

Our local K-mart and Best Buy have these from Aiptek (LINK)for around $98.

I have not used one, but have considered it as a cheap option. I like cheap, so that if it gets smashed or lost... no big investment loss.

This one uses a 2gig SD card, and records ~80 minutes per gig. With SD cards being cheap, you can just pop in another card and keep head out to your next track session. (Wal Mart has a 2-pack of 2G SD from Kodak for $30) In HQ mode, this one records at 640x480/30fps, and can output the video direct to TV in either NTSC or PAL format (in case you've been running "the ring" and need to show some locals how your mad GT4 skillz helped you execute a particularly difficult turn).

I know there are better cameras out there. But as I mentioned, I'm thinking this is a "good enough and CHEAP" solution.

I've got a Flip Video and it works great. Point. Shoot. Great quality. Just don't bother with the zoom since it's a "digital zoom" which means as you zoom in, the picture doesn't really zoom so much as just crop out the edges.

Aside from the zoom I love it. Works great in all light, indoor or out. Fits in a pocket.

It also uploads to Youtube real well, with better quality video then most. The only examples that I have publicly on-line right now are from my recent 5th Kyu Aikodo test. Not great Aikido -- yet, but the video quality is pretty good -- especially for the money.

(PS - forgive the camera work, one of my daughters was taking the video)
