hit a huge piece on concrete on the freeway, then turn it into a track car - and not a pretty one. No one will steal it, and you won't give a crap about door dings or other nonsense.
It isn't about valuing things less, it is about perspective. There are three irreplaceable things in life: time health family The rest are just objects. |
Red 88 Carerra,
I’m sorry that the Porsche thing didn't work out for you. I think that there is some truth to the idea that there is a regional bias going on here and I believe that it has some bearing on Red's dilemma. I owned my 79 SC in Washington State for some years. There I drove the piss out of it on back roads with my buddies, autocrossed it, tracked it occasionally, and went on at least one 1,500 to 5,000 mile road trip every summer. Those on the site who know the car know that it isn't perfect, but it really is a very nice car, especially cosmetically. I moved to Chicago about a year ago. Except for the track (which for some is a stretch psychologically and perhaps financially), there is NO place to drive for fun around here and I don't have time just now for the road trips. Now the car is almost more of a burden than a joy, and yes, I do worry about it getting damaged when I park or store it. The ones who said to get out and enjoy it are right. If own the car to enjoy it on the road, enjoying it on the road will be your primary focus. If you own the car as a perfect, precious object, then your focus (and worry) will be on keeping it a perfect, precious object. There’s not much fun in that. I say enjoy it or sell it. Sadly it sounds like you've chosen the later. |
