2 stroke yamaha 4 wheeler?
Iv been looking for a cheap four wheeler and i see yamaha blasters all day long for 1500 in great shape. Same with other 2 stroke models they always seem to be cheaper. Is there a reason blasters are cheap is it because there 2 stroke and need rebuilding often or is it just because there smaller with less power perhaps? I would think in stock form and well maintained they should last just as long as a 4 stroke. Anybody firmiliar with them ?

blasters blow up because the oil injector system fails, if you get one disconnect the system and premix the fuel. check out my blaster 350 thread, we wedged a honda 350x engine into mine. they are a bit small but very agile.

I'm still riding my 74 Yamaha DT360 that has never been rebuilt.
Same advice; use premix.

The blaster is a relatively simple machine yet is typically more fun and agile for pure offroad fun riding than the complex monstrosities that most quads have become. IOW, if you are going to be riding on motocross type terrain at high speed for fun, the Blaster is much better suited than the big heavy workhorse machines.
I personally prefer MX 2-wheelers for relatively high speed off road fun, but to each their own when it comes to hobbies.

"Thats a pure myth. Yamaha has been making the same auto lube pump for years. I have heard that same thing from dozens of people and not one of them has actually ever seen a failed lube pump. I've also heard this same myth from the outboard guys and none of them have actually ever seen a failed pump. Thats like saying the oil pump in the car is prone to failure while its pumping oil. This is what a friend of mine that races 4 wheelers and dirt bikes says about that, when you run a 2 stroke with a pump and slam the throttle closed the pump still pumps oil since the engine is still spinning, the pre mix bike will start starving for oil because the mix has been basically slowed to nothing while the engine may be winding down from 5000rpm, where as the other one is pumping oil based on engine rpm." And i just think that if you keep your machine well maintained and fix it when you think its doing weird things then you wont have a problem with it. Same with anything really

The Blaster was built as a price point. Get them in the door with a low priced 4wheeler and sell them a Banshee, or to look at it the other way, a cheap answer for the folks who couldn't afford a Banshee.

The blaster came out in 87 or 88 & has had few if any updates. It was never meant to be a high-po ATV like the Banshee/TRX250R/LT250R etc. I will say that the Blaster's engine should be considered as rock solid as any aircooled 4 four stroke quad, since the Blaster's mill is basically the 84-86 IT200 enduro bike engine. Low stress, about 22 hp, tons of low end and mid range torque, claw hammer simple and reliable. A 240cc kit with pipe and porting will bring it into the mid to upper 30 HP range.
I know this because my father had a 1986 IT200 new and rode enduros with it for 8 years, holding his own against riders on much more sophisticated KTMs, RMX250s etc.
