I've done some bone-head moves when working on cars . Just this last week I was having trouble starting the threads on a 7 series BMW fan clutch to water-pump so I held the fan and had someone start the car . Has worked many times for me in the past ( have large hands ) but promptly cross-threaded the threads on the water pump .

5 minutes with a thread file and all was fine .

And like almost all pelicans here I can read . ( I did say almost )


Maybe I have too much pride but if I were that stupid I wouldn't post it for the whole world to see .

Ahh yes .

Another example of "while I was in there" ........... SxS ( who hopes he can read a torque-wrench )

when I was in high school a buddy thought he could make hot chocolate by putting milk and cocoa in a coffee maker.. not quite as expensive as this..

I step to the side of a car whenever someone starts the engine. I've seen too many things fly that were missed like a wrench, or see the car jump forward because the nut behind the wheel didn't put it in neutral.

Lucky you didn't cross-thread your hand.

I've seen fan belts put on without wrenches by pushing on the belt and having someone bump the starter (back in the stone age before the spring-loaded tensioner pully).

Yeah , thought that'd raise an eyebrow or two around here .

After l lost a finger tip to a service writer that cranked the engine while I was working on it I trust no one but myself . ( and from the sound of it I shouldn't trust him either )

Most of the time if I can't get something in a minute or two I'll grab someone with smaller hands and arms .

Now please continue with the Beotch slapping .

I'm starting to feel all warm and fuzzy .

My dad had a friend that was killed by a fan blade coming off while the engine was running. I have always been a little scared of fans.

It was an old car and they had used the fan blades to turn the engine.

So he puts radiator sealant in his OIL? ROFL!

Not only that, but the instructions say to mix the contents with 3 quarts of WATER, then add to the radiator.

You'd think the 3 quarts of water would be a tip off that maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to add to the oil.

The block seal coolant system additive does work.

I can't tell you how many times i've used it on cheap-o cars over the years. As long as the leak isn't massive, it does actually work. You have to make sure you get every drop of anti-freeze out of the cooling system before you use the stuff though.

I know one person that got 4 years out of a car after using this stuff.
