Amusing fact about the band Kraftwerk

From wikipedia:

Quote:

The band is notoriously reclusive, as they reject to accept mail and allow no visitors at the Kling Klang Studio. Another notable example of this eccentric behaviour was reported to Johnny Marr of The Smiths by Karl Bartos, who explained that anyone trying to contact the band for collaboration would be told the studio telephone did not have a ringer, since during recording, the band did not like to hear any kind of noise pollution. Instead, callers were instructed to phone the studio precisely at a certain time, whereupon the phone would be answered by Ralf Hütter, despite never hearing the phone ring.

Thank you for that-- must be later, so "commercial."

I heard that they took a lot of time off after 'tour de france' (83?) because they'd gotten seriously into cycling.

I'm a big fan of early kraftwerk, the really dry stuff...not so much interested in their more proto-techno, dancey stuff.

Radio-activity...etc...

Kraftwerk are innovators. Their samples still hold up 30 years later. I always use their CD as a test for a new stereo setup.:D

You probably know about this, but it's cool anyhow:

(lol, look at the first comment on the first clip. FWIW, I didn't write that.)

HAH. You won't believe this, but I knew that the Coldplay song reminded me of SOMETHING ever since the album came out, what, 2 years ago? I even own the Kraftwork album, and I never made the connection.

Yeah, I was in the same boat. Had them both on the ipod. Was listening to Kraftwerk one day and it just popped. Off to the net for further research....I read that they got Kraftwerk's permission for the sample.

I grew up in and around Detroit, and techno got its US start in Detroit. The rave scene of the late 80s, early 90s was off the hook. DJs (myself included) would drop Kraftwerk tracks to pay homage to the roots. People loved it.

"I'm The Operator of My Pocket Calculator" - 1981

That's the first song that came to mind when I saw the title of this post...

That's cool, VaSteve! I never linked those up until today and listen to both bands. :)

Kraftwerk is as much performance art as they are a band, IMO.

Best,

Kurt

we used to listen to their "Autobahn" when we were in our bong induced comas 30 years ago. Awesome if you have some large subs! :)

Cool stuff.

I've seen Kraftwerk about three times now. Not a show to be missed if they are playing near you.

Trans-Europe Express is probably some of the best driving music you could ever have, btw.
