Man bag

I am getting really tired of having my pockets filled with keys, wallet, cell/pda, and everything else I need to carry on a daily basis. I am thinking about a 'European hand bag' and at the risk of having to turn in my man card am asking your advice. Can a guy carry a bag like this? Would I be better off with a fanny pack? ;)

It's not as big as a briefcase, but would have enough room for everything I need.

What do you do?

It looks like you could fit a Glock, Beretta, Sig, or HK in that just fine. As long as you use it that way, I see no need to turn in your "man card."

Manbag or Murse.

Backpack? Or what is popular in NYC is a courier bag.

I'd reduce the amount of crap you carry.

I carry. Wallet, Keys with my jump drive on them, Cellphone.

I got to say, the Man-purse adds atleast 20% to your ghey factor. Sorry.

This is what I have... but it's more in the "courier bag" than "man bag" category.

I use a messenger bag for most stuff (to/from work). Enough for everything I need on a day-in/day-out basis like notepad, sketch pad, check books, mobile phone, pens/pencils, eyeglasses (I wear contacts, so that's my "just in case" emergency reserve, wallet, keys, laptop, etc.

I hate crap in my pockets too. At least pants pockets. I keep those empty. Jacket pockets I'll put stuff like keys, wallet, sunglasses into if I have a jacket, but if not, I use the messenger bag (usually).

But that's what makes it so perfect for concealed-carry. No one would suspect that you're packing heat in that thing.

well, I think that carrying a bag would be even more of a pain in the a55 than having stuff in your pockets. I've downsized over the years. I have trimmed my wallet down to only the bare necessities and buy wallets for thickness/thinness (only bifolds, take any extra crap out, keep stuff in wallet to a minimum). I keep my cash separate in my front pocket. I also used to carry keys to all three cars, and the 4 house keys, plus, I think I had another key or two. I've since separated my keychain into 2 separate keychains, so when I'm driving my car, I only carry about 4 or 5 keys.

That kind of downsizing is a good thing.

Yeah, its really hard to pull off without looking like you're tuning the meat whistle.

What about a backpack or briefcase?

jyl 06-02-2008 08:55 AM

I say drop by your local Army surplus store, they have various small bags for $10 or so, the vaguely scruffy, semi-martial look reduces the man-purse look. You can try out the man-purse idea and figure out how big a bag you really need, without dropping much $$. When done w/ the $10 surplus bag, it turns into a tool bag.

If(and it's a pretty unlikely if) I had to carry a bag it would be weathered to snot canvas or leather. No colors, etc....

phred, I'd suggest that you spend 15 minutes and really examine WHAT is in your pockets and WHY it's really in there.

Open up your wallet and take out ANYTHING you haven't touched in 6 months. Look at your keychain, and if there's a key on there you haven't touched in 6 months, get it off of there.

I have a little mini-carabiner for my keys and I load it up every morning with ONLY the keys I will need.

And, if you lose your keys or wallet, the world doesn't come grinding to a halt cause you've lost every key you ever had.

If you get a man-purse you'll manage to fill it with a bunch of crap you didn't need anyway. Then you'll need a bigger man-purse.

craigster59 06-02-2008 09:03 AM

I carry one of these to work everyday. It holds computer, notebook, tape measure, keys, and assorted other crap that I need. Tried the messenger bag thing but this is more practical for me,

Whatever you do, no fanny packs.

If you must do a belt-based solution, a Bat Belt is the only acceptable choice.

Jeeese, It's not like I'm asking what kind of driving gloves to wear... ;)

I have trimmed down what I carry to the minimum, but it's still a bunch of crap. When I wear a jacket I use the pockets in that. But that doesn't work all year.

A backpack is bigger than I need, as is the briefcase. When I travel I carry my laptop most everywhere and use that. But I don't want to be lugging that around on a daily basis.

How about this? Less ghey?
