Ford in shady business

so my mom's Taurus has been sitting for awhile with a head gasket problem. i did some research into and found this. called the local dealer and they said their is no recall. I said "really then explain the recall letter in front of me" she then started to spill the beans but only limited it to it's no longer affective. I'm thinking what should i do?

Quote:
All 1994 and 1995 model year Taurus and Sable vehicles equipped with the 3.8L engine and built at the Atlanta Assembly plant from April 28, 1993 through June 7, 1995.

Premature failure of the head gasket(s) may occur. This condition may result in engine coolant leakage, which if not detected, can cause engine overheating. In extreme cases, this condition may result in engine failure. To prevent engine failure, customers should bring their vehicle in for service under this program, if the following symptoms exist:
^ Persistent and worsening overheating engine conditions

^ Heavy white smoke from the tailpipe

^ Flashing "Low Coolant" sensor light, even after coolant is refilled

^ Black discoloration of coolant in the overflow bottle

For vehicles exhibiting the symptoms described above, dealers are directed to replace failed head gaskets with a re-designed gasket, change the engine oil and oil filter and perform a cooling system flush

and BTW the Taurus i have has all 4 symptoms mentioned

Can you try a different dealer?

Or, is there an 800# on the recall notice?

When I worked for GM we would honor a recall for 7 years in most cases unless otherwise stated for a longer period. However we still did everything in our power to get some money out of the customer. (not me personally)

Those weren't the only years that the 3.8 had head gasket problems. Liquid glass worked for the one we unloaded years ago.

All Ford 3.8s are known for bad head gaskets. They're junk motors. They were installed in T-birds, Cougars, Tauruses, and probably a few other models.

The 3.0 (optional in the taurus/sable) is a much, much better engine.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but what is the mileage on the car? It is at least 13 year old, yes?
