Porsche Pricing?
Bell's recent post attempting to rapidly sell his 911 prompted a brief foray into the local Porsche market. It seems that, while prices are all over the board, used 911 prices are lower than I ever remember seeing them. I saw a 996 that looked to be in pretty good condition for just under $20K, and quite a few 80's Carrera's for only slightly over $10K.
Oddly, while 964s, middle year 911s, and even 996's seem to be popping up on the used boards for relatively low prices, I haven't seen the same thing with 993s. ??? Is this a reflection of the current economic situation? A statement about gas prices? A reflection on people's lack of interest because of a perception that Porsche no longer makes true sports cars? An excellent time to pick up an old beauty for a song? An aberration? Dan |
My opinion is never worth much, but here it is.
As economics tighten, people start liquidating their toys and getting back to necessities. Yes, an excellent time to pick up a classic 911. |
Cash is right...I have let most all of my toys go in the last 12 months. I want to pay all my debbts up and be in a strong position to puick up another house when the dust settles. I have sold off 3 ducatis, my boxster, 3 944 cabs and a bunch of old collectibles..I just listed my last toy for sale yesterday...84 rz350

I doubt you'll ever see the 993 values drop to the same levels as an SC or Carrera. Why? Everyone wants them. They have the character of the air-cooled cars but the conveniences of the more modern models. Plus, they're drop dead gorgeous. Supply and demand, and there always seems to be plenty of demand for what many call the "last real Porsche".
Personally, I like them all, and think that the 996 is a freakin steal right now. |
