Who's got the best prices on the Macbook?

Thinking of that as a grad gift for my son. I don't mind buying online. Any recommendations?

Buy from Apple, get the education discount (anyone can!) and don't buy RAM form Apple.

This is what I would do, FWIW. It's hard to find significant discounts on new MBs, AFAIK.

Check out Mac Prices for the latest prices, available bundled goodies to sweeten the deal and whether or not you pay sales tax.

I've bought all my Apple stuff from PowerMax for the last decade.
No sales tax, fantastic customer support and they are Apple Authorized Resellers.

And listen to Kurt - do not get the RAM from Apple. It's much cheaper from other vendors and it's very easy to install yourself.

I hate to say it, but I'd recommend you get Apple Care when you buy, too.

These things are nice, but as they get smaller and smaller, they get hotter and hotter and BOOM. I just threw a new hard drive in my MacBook.

I did what the guys above mentioned. Purchased my Macbook from apple with the educational discount and I didn't upgrade my ram from them. All you have to do is pick a random school.

Got a new 17 Macbook Pro couple of weeks ago.

Got the 4 gb upgrade from OWC, $115 shipped next day.

Some better prices out there but had been procrastinating on buying the memory and had a last minute editing job to do on the road hence the rush.

4 gb upgrades can be found for as little as $50, check Fry's.

Been an Apple user for 20 years.

This is my second MacBook Pro. I generally buy a new laptop every 1.5-2 years and a desktop every 3.

I run a lot of RAM hungry apps. Machine feels like a desktop, nice and snappy.

I usually buy from Memory X, got this upgrade from OWC cause I ordered late in the day and they could still ship same day.

OWC has been around forever and is a great Apple resource.
