How do I get my blog published and/or drive traffic to it?

I just added my blog URL to my signature here. How do I get it to show up in search engines? I don't want to post on other blogs just to drive traffic to mine, but if that's the only way, I guess I'll do it. Any ideers?

"Meta tags".

open your site. click 'view' on your browsers pull down menu and click 'source'.
The "meta content" is a large part of what the robotic search engines 'see'.

Click on my site and view the source. You'll see what I mean.

Then enter "tile napa" in Google and see the pay off!

Thanks, but I don't see how any of that gets me listed in search engines or explains how to do so.

The search engine will 'find you'.

They will find the keywords you edit into the background of your web page's code.

I did *nothing* but what I told you to get top ranking.

Viewing the source of your and my blogs and searching for yours in Google doesn't tell me how to get my blog found by search engines. How do I do that? Am I supposed to edit something in the source?

trekkor 06-08-2008 09:27 PM

Bingo!

Yes, edit the source.

Add keywords that you think people searching would type in, if you wanted them to find you.

Did you see the words I used?

Also, it takes time. My site has been up for several years.
Like I said, the "robotic search engine" spiders will find your 'meta tags'.

Look at the 'source' on home pages you visit to get some ideas.

Some people even mis-spell common search words to catch everyone.

"Porshe", for example.

Have you ever searched Craig's list or E-bay fro 'secret ads'?
You'll only find them if you mis-spell.

It goes both ways.

Pretty hard to mis-spell "tile" :D
