it's crunch time......relocating

time for my "official relocation" thread :)
we had our 2 sunday moving sales, brought in almost $600 while getting rid of the crap we didn't want to take, still sitting on my fish tanks at the moment though.......need these puppies to go, they are currently on craigslist.....
today i spent the day purging a ton of stuff, dismantling tank stands etc, i gave the almost new lumber to a neighbor who is remodeling his whole house, had enough to fill the bed of his toyota p/u.....so that was a good deed as he kinda got in over his head with how much work his house needs when he bought it.

i have a ton of stuff going to the curb, our city charges $30 for "special garbage pickup".....but no big deal, i just make a phone call and they come get it.

house is 50% packed.....
garage is about 90% packed, basement just needs swept up and finish packing some of my tank sump stuff.......
911 is going to a friends garage, i'll get it transported down early aug, yes i pulled this off without having to sell it, but it was close :D

i pick up my rental truck friday am with a tow dolly for my rav4, load up friday night, work sat until 6pm then hit the road, start the new job monday morning.......

ocala fl here i come :D

I just went through this. I was amazed by how easy the garage was to pack up. For a one car garage, I had an amazing amount of shi....stuff in there. I sold my 75 gal. aquarium for $125 on Craigslist, found a good home for my Boa there too. It's amazing how much shi....stuff you have, but can easily live without. I have a huge game room in my new place in Phoenix and it's still full of boxes. Why did I think I needed to keep all that when I've not even touched those boxes since the movers dropped them off? I mean, you never want to throw away classic VHS porn, but it takes up a lot of space.

Hey, isn't your 911 still on Ebay? I think I have it on my "watch" list?

djmcmath 06-10-2008 01:40 AM

Glad to hear you could keep the 911 -- that's important. Enjoy the move.

Have been spoiled living in the same town 25 years. Did switch houses but used a month to move.

brian, have a great move! It's good to hear that you're keeing the 911. You'll enjoy it year round down in FL. :)

Jims5543 06-10-2008 04:45 AM

Bell, I hope all goes smooth, once your settled in and your going to play car let me know.

We can go to a Martin AX together and I'll introduce you to some great people.

I wish you were getting the 911 down sooner we are meeting up up at my house in NC in July for some fun driving then over to Pats for a ATF day over a 3 day weekend.

Keep the 1st weekend of November open for Porsches on the Dragon. :D

I am happy to have such a cool not so close by neighbor to meet up with.

bell 06-10-2008 04:58 AM

thanks all, it's going to be a busy week :)
i'll be snapping pics of the adventure :D

my 911 was not on ebay, as i knew there was a chance i wouldn't have to sell.....it's going to be very tight over the next month but i'm glad i got to keep it.

jim good times are ahead :)

Don't even think about exceeding the speed limit as you approach Ocala. Not that you would with everything in tow, but the cops are known to be ticket happy there.

id10t 06-10-2008 07:58 AM

Drop me a PM when you get settled in Ocala ... I may be able to drive down from Gainesville and hit the shooting range in the ONF , if you are interested... I can bring the FAL, AK, and a few pistols to have some fun with...

I seem to recall that the northern part of the state has/had some nasty speed traps. Local knowledge is key. Any detailed advice for bell? :)

JeremyD 06-10-2008 08:09 AM

It's hotter than the north side of the sun right now - only positive is that at least the afternoon thunderstorms have started and have started to cool off some - still humid as hell though.

Valdosta, GA and Jasper, FL - both places to watch yourself on 75

Micanopy, fl is just up the road from Ocala - that's where "Doc Hollywood" was filmed.

id10t 06-10-2008 08:10 AM

Don't take 301 down thru Waldo, Lawtey, etc. MASSIVE speed traps there... (you'd be coming from 95/jacksonville to do that)

I travel I75 daily to/from work, never see police. A coworker lives in Ocala and sees very few on his commute up/down 75 also.

Don't get gas in Alachua county (Gainesville, Alachua, etc). Typically 8-10c/g cheaper one county north (columbia co. lake city) or south (marion county, ocala) due to taxes. Over half the property here in Alachua is state owned, so we don't get a lot of tax $ from it... make up for it in sales and gas tax.

good luck, make it happen!
