Cedric Benson- "sorry I drank and drove, but Im not guilty!"
Try to figure this one out. Chicago Bears running back, and former first round top 10 pick Cedric Benson was busted for the 2nd time in a couple of weeks for drinking offenses, this time for drinking and driving.
As a result, the Bears cut him and his career is in jeopardy, particularly since he wasnt very productive on the field. Here is his quote today: ""I apologize for making the poor decision to drink and drive during the early morning of Saturday, June 7th," Benson said in a statement. "Given the incident last month, it was a particularly bad decision. I have no excuse for this lack of judgment. Though I strongly believe that I am not guilty of any crime, I realize that the public and the Bears organization hold me to higher standard. Though my local attorneys will continue to work hard to prove my innocence, I confess to using poor judgment. Please accept my deepest apology." So... lets get this straight... Benson apologizes for drinking and driving but strongly believes that he is not guilty of a crime? |
Benson has pretty much been a thug since his hs days. His record is lengthy.

And Lovie Smith has a history of cutting players who cause trouble (Tank Johnson anyone?).
I think he's one of the few coaches in the NFL who actually does this. |
Two things here. I don't know what his BAC was, but in a lot of places, it's totally legal to have a few in you and drive if your BAC is below the legal limit. So I can have a beer or two and drive to the store to buy more ice, then say I drank and drove, but was not guilty of any crime. Secondly, you're not technically guilty until the state has proven it. Not guilty is what you plea when you plan to make the state prove their case. It has nothing to do with whether you actually did what they charged you with. Ask OJ about that.
