"A racing car is ultimately the most efficient vehicle on the planet"
Professor Murray designed some of the most successful Formula One cars ever built - as well as the McLaren F1, for years the world's fastest road going car.
But now, he has left the high-octane world behind and turned his attention to making the motor car more environmentally friendly. For the past year, he has been working on a radical design that he claims will shake up the entire industry. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7387432.stm |
Lose the weight! Brilliant! New cars are getting way too piggy, IMO.

Smaller, lighter sports cars? You think? Sign me up.

The pessimist in me says no way "smaller, lighter" is going to happen.
Not when ABS and traction control and GPS electronics are being federally required, and crash testing is against SUV/semis. Insurance companies will triple their rates for small cars, and states will issue additional "fair pay/fail play" taxes to cover the lost gas-tax revenue. Everyone but the car's owner would lose part of their cut with the current system. |
My biggest concern would be protection. The mass of an SUV driven by a distracted, cell-phone-talking, makeup-applying, text-messaging ****** plowing into my small, lightweight sports car needs to dissipated somewhere.

One more reason to like motorcycles and bicycles. And older cars.
Less crap in 'em. |
