Petition to allow oil drilliing

If you go to this website you will be albe to sign a petition which will be sent to congress to allow oil companies to drill and explore for oil in areas which are currently off limits. If you love to drive your Porsche as much as I do this should be of interest to you.

If there is not enough oil in these areas, then why is China, with the Cubans, drilling off the coast of Florida?

Just another thought... How many out there remember the late 70's and the lines at the gas stations? The same argument was used then and is being used now. Even if we drill now it won't help or there is not a great enough quality to make a difference. If you keep doing the same thing how do you expect anything to ever change.

If China is drilling there, then it's a) out of our territorial waters and ergo out of context of this discussion; b) something is majorly screwed up with how we apportion mineral rights. Lemme know when China starts drilling in ANWAR.

My original point is that drilling in these areas will not grant any price relief. ANWAR oil will trade on the futures exchanges at the same price as equivalent oil from the ME or Elbonia, for that matter. I personally don't care if they drill in those areas or not, as long as the proper environmental precautions are taken, but the oil companies don't exactly have a stellar track record in this regard. The oil industry uses these 'shortages' to extract royalty, tax and environmental concessions.

Although, US law will not allow American companies from drilling for oil off the coast of Florida, the US laws will not stop the Chinese from setting up 36 new oil wells there for Cuba.

The big thing that sucks is how the drilling is being done. If you draw a line in a swimming pool where 3/4 of the pool is the US's and the line represents the end of the territory, when China throw their vacuum cleaners in and starts sucking it pulls from the whole pool. I think we need to start drilling extensively now. Even if it doesnt helo for 5 or 10 years, its not like anything is going to get better by then.

I just did some quick reading on the China/Cuba drilling thing. Sounds like an interestingly f'd up situation. Too bad we don't have anyone with more diplomatic skillz in the white house...

Doesn't the US already have offshore drilling close to that area?
