Anyone in El Lay - New FM 100.3
What an awesome station. No mundane/drivel talk.
A wide variety of music - deeper cuts, AAA. I hope it lasts!

My wife likes it but seems like the same old stuff to me. But then I stopped listening to MSM pretty much entirely, so...

Agree in theory (no adverts), but I gave that up, too. If you listen to one 'station', they seem to repeat quite a lot. Got bored after trial period.

I have about a dozen stations programmed, and usually switch back and forth between 3-4 of them. There is some repeat, but way less than commercial radio, and since they are somewhat genre specific I make my own mixes. Plus some of them are very random.
No way that I could go back to commercial radio unless I was totally broke. In which case I wouldn't be driving. |

So what do they play? What range?
I don't have a radio in the house (that works) so the only time i listen to the radio is when I'm driving somewhere and then I'm usually listening to the traffic reports. Jack FM plays some good music but I get so sick and tired of their self-promoting bull crap. |

Pretty close on the dial to the oldies station, K-EARTH 101. Seems like only yesterday that we, LA kids who had FM, listened to KMET, KNAC, and KLOS. KEARTH was that square station for old fossils. Somewhere along the line, many of my favorite tunes moved to KEARTH. I indeed have morphed into fossilville....

I listened while taking the kids to school this morning.
What I heard (only 3 songs) was decent enough, acoustic backed songs, B side stuff that would otherwise never get air time. Technically sound but was dangerously close to artistic masturbation and reminded me of a male version of lilith faire. Not enough energy to keep me interested. I'm not writing it off just yet, need to listen more to see if that small snippet was representative. |

Remember the fish report? I remember calling up a couple of times and arguing with Jim Ladd on the air during his political talk show. He was about as liberal as a "human being" can be, no doubt caused by a chemically-induced complete lack of brain cells. I was the opposite even in my teens. He didn't have a clue but was very skilled at debate especially when he controlled the airwaves. One time I had him up against the proverbial wall about a subject he brought up but wasn't really familiar with and he had changed his story about three times, so he got frustrated he simply hung up. He caught a ration from the next three or four callers for that, and he cut them off too. Pwned. They played good music tho ..... |

In San Diego we had KPRI (my fav), along with the still-going KGB. Before FM it was "boss radio" days with 1360 KGB (AM) and the "heavy 11-70 KCBQ".

Before FM? you just dated yourself
![]() I listened to 100.3 some more. Something about that station seems mellow, weird, almost hypnotic. It's as if the music is slowed down. I listened to a few songs and then switched to jack FM and woke up. Maybe it's how they have the music equalized? |

I miss the old top 40 days...the station of this area was Portland's KISN...on AM band, of course...

Paraquat Kelly ... and I think I misspoke earlier. It's Tuna Smelt on a bicycle seat fish. Alas, I only have a faint memory of my memory. Last edited by TerryH; 06-10-2008 at 03:57 PM.. |
