Bought some fire retardant workwear today

I'm at the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Conference in Vegas this week. I looked at several suppliers of fire retardant clothing and ended up buying some not bad looking cargo pants that are dark blue and a tan brushed-twill light weight long sleeved shirt. Both look like they could have come from Dockers or some other store. They have an FR rating of 2, which means they will protect me in a 3 second natural gas fireball.

Why you ask. I regularly hang with special effects guys who make lots of explosions. Cost was $95 for shirt and slacks, plus UPS shipping. I could wear this stuff to the office and then go out in the field. Sorry no pics at this time.

to complete yer wardrobe you should look at wildland fire fighter gear. all nomex pants , shirts, fleece jackets, heavy rain jackets, undies, socks, gloves etc.

and then if ya really wanna be hip...........they make air ops suits , jackets, pants , etc. for those days you get to deal with aereo-planes and helos.

all in BRIGHT COLORS SO YOU CAN BE SEEN!

I've been wearing nomex at work for almost 20 years. It doesn't breath very well and I've never needed it, but I'm glad I have it. You just never know ....

PS make sure you wash and dry it separately from other clothes. I've been told non-fire resistant cotton fibers can get embedded in it and reduce it's effectiveness.

My fiance was there as well working. She is a FR (flame retardant ) sales specialists for G&K Services. Who did you buy them from?

Cool stuff, I hope that you never need it.
It doesn't take too much to protect you from a short duration fireball, it's the parts that aren't covered that you have to worry about.

Wish I'd known that! I bought from a company called Riverside, I think, the paperwork is in the car. I don't wire up pyro, but often I;m near it when they are pre-rigging.

Surflvr, ugh, I hope I'm never like that. But you can see from the pic he wouldn't be smiling if he had been wearing a nylon Hawaiian shirt.

LOL! True, a thin nylon shirt would have sucked, but I was wearing GORTEX, which melts almost as fast as nylon I found out. Good thing I had cotton on under it.

Good timing based on the recent tragedy on John Woo's film set.

True that. I have to go down to the former Fox Baja facility where they filmed Titanic. Seems they found about 300 # of black powder and about 2,000 feet of det. cord plus some other crap that we have to get rid of so that we can take over the facility and film "Dawn Treader" the 3rd in the Chronicles of Narnia series that we're doing. I think I'll bring my new duds.
