Mad bass skills. It isn't perfect but man that has to be hard to play on a bass.

The best I've ever seen from Mark Knopfler. He starts getting into it just after the 2 minute mark and snowballs from there.

From 1979, which is hard to believe, IMO.

The song was released in November of '79, which means it was probably written and recorded a bit before then.

Anyway, thanks for the post. :) Joy Division is probably my favorite band of all time, and Peter Hook is the reason I started playing bass 20+ years ago.

edit: I was trying to embed another song, but it seems that YouTube is on the fritz right now.

Glad you liked that, Jim!

This song was my introduction to NO - featuring the dominant bass line of Hook! I discovered Joy Division shortly thereafter. Below vid from '85.

Cocaine Blues

J.J. Cale (the author) with Leon Russell – unfortunately an uninspired performance from the 70s

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qSzU4zP74ng&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qSzU4zP74ng&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Eric Clapton made it an anthem – video probably from the 80s

Another song about Cocaine - Jackson Browne from 1977 (Rev Gary Davis also did this & wrote it I think)
