Help finding old pic from car magazine
Ok, here's a tough one for the pelican brain trust. I've got a photoshoot with my car coming up, and there's a shot I'd like to recreate. When I was a kid I used to buy all the car magazines, and there was one particular shot that's always stuck in my mind, sort of the ultimate car pic, but I have no idea what magazine it was in, or when it was published (though I can narrow it down), so maybe this will sound familiar to someone here.
I'm pretty sure it was a red Countach, I think driving, though might have been stopped, in a rural country lane or small highway or something, with leaves flying all around it and trees on both sides of the road. It's always been in the back of my mind as the quintessential driving pic (plus autumn is my favourite season). I could be wrong about details - I'm not 100% sure of the colour or even the car. I think it was driving and the pic was taken from behind, but I could be wrong. My main memory is a cool car and leaves flying. It would've been in either Automobile Magazine, Road and Track or Car and Driver, possibly Motor Trend (those are the only ones I bought, usually), around 1985-1987 probably. I'm guessing Automobile Magazine, because I seem to remember they always had better pictures. I did look on their website, and they don't seem to offer back issues. I went through hundreds of pics on google images and didn't find it. Anyway, does this sounds familiar to anyone? I know it's a long shot!! Thanks! |
This maybe a long shot but go to "flickr.com" or any of the other photo storage/posting sites. I belong to flicker. In flickr you can do a search for a group, there will be several Lambo groups listed. All should be open for public viewing. (Porn groups you'll have to join to view.) You can also try searching for Lambo pictures but the picture's orginal poster would have had to list "Lambo" in the title of the photo. Many guys just post photos w/o titles.
You will find thousands of photos to view. Sometimes guys will scan photos and upload them to thier flickr pages. Good luck. |
I don't know that picture, but there was one floating around of a yellow longhood rally 911, in the woods with leaves, that I used to have as my wallpaper.
It might be similar to the effect you are looking for - I wish I still had a copy it was on an old computer of mine. |
Was the picture from above and behind the Countach? Road & Track had their first "Worlds fastest cars" article and I think that was the cover picture. I think it was like Sept 87' or something.
BTW a RUF 930 was the fastest car. |
There was also a picture of a red BMW M1 I saw posted on the interweb recently that sounds like it fits your description. I think it may have been in the random pic thread, but I can't look through all of the pages to find it. :p

Ok am I the only one here who is gonna say something about the comment "when I was a kid, around 85-87"?
Thanks for making me feel old there buddy. :) |
Sorry :D I was actually 10 in 1985, so not a very young kid, but a kid nonetheless.
Thanks for all the help so far guys! I couldn't find the specific issue of road and track online, but I haven't looked all that hard yet. Their back issues don't go that far, at least not through their website - they outsource their back issues to some other company. Allen, you're right - the random pics thread is far too huge to go through, looking for one picture! I've gone through 44 pages on flickr - at 25 images/page that's 1100 Countach pics!!! Wow. |

Yup, that's the one. Photochopped or not, that's an awesome picture (more so if it's not!).

Bumping this because I just saw this pic in the "show your desktop" thread, and it immediately reminded me of this elusive pic that I'm still trying to find! If this looks familiar to anyone, but with a Lamborghini or Ferrari driving, please let me know!

If you have an idea of the road where you want to recreate this shot, why not spend some time looking for sections on that road where you can get a good shot and put your effort into making the best shot possible that fits the spirit of your memory of the shot in the magazine?
You may even be able to make a better shot. Be sure and scout the road at different times of the day and in different weather. |
That's exactly the plan. I want to show the pic to the photographer and see if he knows any roads aroung here that are similar.

Go to flickr.com and there is a group for Auto Ads that has thousands of pictures in it. I belong to it. Has everything from the old VW ads to P-cars to the cool old Pontiac ads.
|
Thanks - I looked through all 51 pages, but no luck! FWIW, it was an article, not an ad.

Bingo!
:D (is that our Russian friend's car?) |
Just a random googley thing. No idea what it is.
|
No, I was referring to Maxim (I think that was his name?) the crazy Russian f#(ker who posts on here about his vehicular stunts and mishaps.

|
Close, but no cigar. Thanks, though!
