I think I need a new...

Umbrella.

AZ heat has destroyed the plastic pieces. As you can see, I even attempted to fix it with Duct Tape.

Cheers,

Mike:

We have a Sunbrella. Spendy but I think it's worth it- cantilevered, LED lights in the center and along the ribs, reclines back against the anchor post when it's not in use. Plus you don't have the post in the middle thing going on...

Cheers,

Paul.

but i would try zip ties next. :D

Come to Sweden. We donīt need any 'sunbrellas' here.

Metal awnings. Or a wood trellis system.

Ours comes off with not so much wind... so just about every time we are up on the pool deck, I have to put it back on/up. I'd glue a couple of the ends on, but I don't want to have the whole umbrellla fly up and away.

Mike,
Uh....here's a tip: Nothing EVER gets "fixed" with duct tape...well, other than ducts of course. Duct tape usage means you're Micky Mousing something that is shot. Looks like its time for a new umbrella alright....but you might try chewing gum, Zip ties, or my personal favorite for the truly Eff'd thing that must be made to function for a bit longer, JB Weld!:D

I've been thinking about putting a sail shade over our pool... figured I could tether it to the fence on two sides and a pole on the house side.

Dan...We recently had our home heating system redone, adding cantral air, new furnace...ductwork replaced. I mentioned duct tape. Nope, they didn't use it. I was told it came loose too often....they use some new high tech stuff...

I found it amusing...

Funny, ok then I can return to my original piosition that, "...duct tape "fixes" nothing!:D

By the way, I use duct tape for all sort of stuff. Get this: I recently saw at Home Depot, rolls of duct tape that are a full one foot wide right off the roll. I have no use for it that I have though of yet, but I want some!

Porsche_monkey 06-16-2008 10:16 AM

Real 'duct' tape is the shiny metal stuff. 'Duck' (waterproof) tape is the common grey repair tape, aka gaffers tape. Gorilla tape is better than duck tape.

The R Gruppe swears by Duct Tape, they use it for everything!

Fortunately for me, I have two other umbrellas that are in working order. I was asked to toss this one last week during the bulk pick up time. I wanted to see why we would be tossing a perfectly good umbrella?

Duct tape was my attempt at a crap fix job to prove it was still worthy of being at my house. Duct tape worked until a light breeze pulled it off. I guess it will be in line for the next bulk pick up.

I do like the how so many ideas there are for permanent and roll away sun coverage these days.

And to let you know, it is still up in my backyard, looks like crap, I am sure the golfers love to see it. Too flippin' hot to touch until night time and weekend pool time is over...until next weekend.

Cheers,

craigster59 06-17-2008 01:31 PM

Quick fix...

That is a good one; however, I prefer to create an area that the ground is cool as well. Hence the big umbrella shading the ground. Put it up at the beginning of the day and enjoy.

how do you tell a tourist in seattle?

they are the ones trying to use an umbrella.;)
