This can't be good. Anyone got advice?
So I'm camping on Lake Michigan with the family and I get a call from a buddy that he thinks he just saw my house on the news. Apparently the night before, in a wind storm, this happened. Enjoy..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1213618999.jpg Thankfully no one was home, even my dog was gone. The damage is mainly the garage. This really hasn't been a great couple of years for me. Real busy, more later. |
Ouch, that really sucks. Hopefully you either get a better place out of the deal or getting it fixed is quick and easy.
Good Luck! |
Glad you were not there. Hope things turn around for you.....
|
Some insurance adjusters should chime in here....I see lots of potential for the homeowner to get screwed.
|
I see a new Porsche play house.
Sorry Len, that sucks. Glad you and family, and dog, are all ok. |
Oh, len! What a bummer! I hope it works out alright! Relief no one was hurt.
Hope you didnīt store a surprise, mint 73 RS in that garage.. |
Len, look at it another way, it was a great day for you that you and your family were not home. Hope the insurance company does not hassle you about this.
|
***** thats sucks!:( Thankfully nobody got hurt. Any damge to the main part of the house? I just took a huge tree down in front of my house because I feared the same thing would happen.
|
I don't see much damage to the main house but who knows. The initial call with the insurance guy was not good, total prick. But then it was Sunday night at 8:00 P.M.
The power company cut my lines and they shut off my gas. I'm having the tree removed this morning, then I need some electricians to go in and tie off lines, etc.. Then I guess I just pick a builder??? |
Before you have the tree removed, please make sure that the insurance company adjuster gives you the OK. Many of my borther's neighbors in southern Mississippi got screwed after Katrina by starting the clear away damage too soon.

Damn! Sorry to see that happen to you. It has been a rough spell for you.
|
Wow.
That. . . (wait for it) blows. |
My condolences, Len. You'll get through this rough patch.
|
wow thats a big tree! at least your buddy called. instead of driving up on it unawares!
start making a list. call 5 contractors to get bids and hope for the best. good luck. sorry for your loss. as we are entering our most beloved season of the year. MONSOON! 1996 i had 115mph winds rip my house apart and my solar panel sail(yep sail) into my neighbors yard while i was underneath in garage battening down the hatches! 3 roofs around me lifted partially and roof tiles shingles everywhere. i didnt loose any shingles except around base of solar. elk 30 year fire proof shingles! |
I think insurance agents call that tree a 'pre-existing condition'. Or an 'act of god'.
|
Bummer, man.
You should read your insurance policy very carefully before talking to the insurance company. |
You are a lucky man - lucky no one was home.
|
I live in fear of that happening to me. The trees I have around my house make that look like a twig. I am looking into having a couple of them removed but some are not on my property, in a township easement, and I don't own them. However they are 100+ year old trees and even if I clear to my lot line if they fell they would still hit my house. I would hate to have to "slash and burn". I'm sorry this happened to you but the good side is you all are ok. I will follow this closely though. Best of luck.
|
Glad you where not at home and all are well. When I had two 60 to 70 foot oak tress up root and crash into my house my insurance company paid all bills to make it whole again.
