Have gas prices risen everywhere?
We all know what's happening to gas prices in America. What about China, India, Hong Kong, Mexico?
Is this just a U.S. phenomena, or is it global? If it's just affecting us here, then why?

A friend of mine who's moving to Doha (Qatar) soon just got back from there and said the people are upset over there because gasoline is up to about 70 cents a gallon (used to be something like 40 cents a year or two ago).
I don't know how much to read into that. . .

I think it's safe to say that they have gone up everywhere - except perhaps in some oil producing countries.

sub's by gov't is another story.
Euro gets wacked with taxes. US tuna boats used to run to Venezuela for fuel at .19$/gal. .. like it or not fossil fuels is not replaceable for a very long time. If environmentalists win the argument fuel costs will lower our standard of living. Unintended consequences will be loss of job creation etc etc. hopefully high fuel costs will keep out 90% of the vehicles I find in the forests and on highways during tourist season.

The truckers strikes in Portugal, Spain, France tell the tale in Europe. Gas was 1.47 € in Lyon 2 weeks ago per liter. That's $8.55 USD per US gallon (if my math was right)

$2.50/gal. for diesel right across the border (Palomas, Mexico). Good luck not getting shot by drug lords while trying to fill up...

Funny that you say that, I thought the same way too, but noticed an amazing number of huge gas (not even diesel) trucks/suv's pulling boats Memorial day, and gas was already $4.50/gal here.

I haven't noticed the slightest decrease in huge trucks and SUV's towing other gas-guzzling toys.

In Montreal, it's 1.50 for a liter of regular...so about 5.70 for a US gallon.

maybe same last Memorial day around here? for sure routine small boats density is down here. I'm going to take some pics right now at 8am. Channel should be busy if times were good. $5/1.5 mile is lousy gas mileage.

Of course, any price controls will just create shortages -- which will be blamed on everything but the price control! It is beginning to look like the 1970s all over again. Maybe I had better stop by the second-hand clothing store and see if I can find any polyester suits -- if they don't come back in style, maybe I can burn them as fuel! |

HI Just put £35 ($68.09) of diesel in the van, which was only 26.94LT,
1LT=£1.299 ($2.53) and it is on the up each week, wish I was over with your prices for fuel, granted most of our price is tax. regards mike (driving slowly and not to far round the UK)

This post is mostly for entertainment
This is unofficial discretionary income fuel cost dislocation from the western wetlands of Long Island. This area borders NYC and is 10 miles from Kennedy Airport. Income group owns 50 ft and under power boats. This area is so busy summer weekends that boats travel highway style. Today is Sat. Pics taken from Long Beach Island aka one of many sandbars forming a break water to LI wetlands at 8:30 am. Hamptons is 75 miles east along same strip of wetlands. 1st pic is bs from my porch to channel. Ocean is 1,000 feet in opposite direction. ![]() Pic 2 is a wide shot inside the channel at a sandbar sticking out into the channel. It's a good fishing spot for small boats and large boat idiots who have enough brains to know they don't belong in the ocean. The area is empty. There should be 10-20 boats working the area today as fish are around. Arrow is bar point which extends about 80-100 yards underwater. ![]() Pic 3 is when I set camera for a close up. Point is about .5 mi from where I'm standing. Arrows show bar length. ![]() Pic 4 is looking west to East Rockaway Inlet. Atlantic Beach Bridge at arrow is gateway. Great fishing area. I'm one of the only guys free dives that bridge. SCUBA is prefered method. That bridge draws all kinds of ocean critters. The building to right of arrow is Far Rockaway NYC. Underwater rescue there is a chess game between Nassau County rescue teams and NYC PD underwater teams with their helo. The area is empty of boats. It should be packed with weekenders. ![]() Pic 5 is bs pic of my perch 2-4days/week/365. This is the field I grew up in. High currents, low visibility, animal style free diving and scuba. Wildlife is ok due to congestion in past 40 years. I started free diving at 10 yrs old when it was 10x better. To find nice wetlands I have to go 50 miles east in direction of Montauk Point.

It can't come soon enough. I'm always happy to see fewer SUV's on the road. I ride my bike everywhere. I might go through a tank of gas in the car per month.
