I.D. strange object found on ground

anyone know what this is? i found it in a parking lot. it smelled of fuel.
its quite heavy. one end is sealed off. the other end, which you can see in the photo, has a spring loaded core. there is a small hole in the side

im guessing its off a car but i really have no clue. any ideas?

Looks like a hydraulic lifter to me.

KevinP73 06-18-2008 03:33 PM

Don't touch it !! It could cause "pushroditits". No known cure!

lol, definitely not good news when one of those makes it way out of your engine!

ramonesfreak 06-18-2008 03:41 PM

it definitely was not new. it smelled of gas and was sorta lying under the back end of a car. i spotted it and grabbed it and because of the fuel smell, thought might be some sort of fuel injector component. i dont know much about the internals of engines but seems like an odd thing to fall out of the engine...unless someone had been doing engine work and just ditched it

thanks guys. it makes a nifty paperweight so ill keep it

It's a piston return spring off of a 64 valiant.
