The "last innocent" generation...When we was growin up we was all told by our teachers in school that America was the GREATEST that we represented everything good in the world and everybody loved America and Americans for it. That America was honest as the day was long...Then something happened that started to change our opinions. That was the death of JFK, we didn't quiet believe what our HONEST, NEVER TELL A LIE government told us about it.
We started to examine and question what we was told to us in school and found out a different truth about America that it had blemishes and warts and all. That we were not always on the side of right and always wore white hats . Some of us got so angry that we was lied to by our teachers and government that we never forgave those little white lies we were told. Some keep pointing out the flaws and get angry when our government can not live up to the ideals that we were told about by our teachers in school when we were young. At one time them people was called Hippies and today they are called Liberals.

political assinations, seemingly unending cold war, Vietnam war / war protests, civil rights movement / race riots, Nixon's paranoia...yep, those were some heady days.
![]() The only good things from the 60's were miniskirts, surf music, and British rythm & blues. Oh yeah, lava lamps. ![]()

Funny how people have a different recollection of the same period. I had a total blast in the 60's from 65' on(high school graduation thru college graduation). We traveled all over the county, on no money, bummed around, no credit cards, got jobs, quit and moved on. There were virtually no restrictions on travel or computers to track you, the place was wide open! Sure there was Vietnam, but we didn't all get to go, and the riots and all and the assassinations surely were a low note, but it wasn't all bad. We were kids in a crazy time. Now with all the controls and big brother crap, I feel lucky to have been there. The US was much simpler place then.

Really too young to recall the 1960s. However one thing stands most improtant to me from the 1960s: the Apollo program.

The sexual revolution? How could you leave that out? A world without AIDS or condoms.

I was only a kid in the 60's, but I despise the counter-culture hippie movement. Those imbeciles did more to damage this country than any other movement in our history. We are still not over it.
I look forward to the day when those ridiculous and unrealistic notions are gone forever. We can start by nuking Berkeley. |
