Happy Mid Summer!

Got to go find a place this weekend to dance around a big pole in the ground, toast vodka, sing Swedish songs and eat some sill.

You have to dance naked!

Believe me, none of us want to see that...

VaSteve 06-20-2008 06:31 PM

WTF you talking about? Summer starts tomorrow.

dentist90 06-20-2008 06:32 PM

When summer gets here I'll dance naked, too. It looks like I'll be able to keep my clothes on for awhile. Sigh.

Alf comes from the grey, rainy Pacific NW.....Seeing the sun the first time of the year does strange things to the mind.....

Midsummer festival, celebrates the Summer Solstice which is this weekend. Good excuse to get drunk and dance around a pole or just watch drunk people dance around a pole all day.

Believe me it is big in Sweden, ask Livi who is probably drunk and dancing around a pole as we speak.

This Ikea ad might explain in a Monty Python sort of way :)

It is actually more like this, great fun really.

alf!

You are correct! This was actually the reason for my 'hang over recipe' thread. I started a day early and needed to recuperate for the midsummer activities.

We did all that. Dancing around the pole (well not me actually), drank heavily, sang songs of typical character and played a lot of guitar (badly).

Today. Well...

Lets just say I am grateful for all the good recipes. :D

I'm not sure that second video makes me any prouder to be Swedish. :)

In case someone wants to give it a shot here, all you really need to get the spirit of it is a few cans of herring, a bottle of OP Andersson (available at BevMo) and some singing. In a pinch, the OP Andersson will do if ingested in sufficient quantities. Glad midsommar!

We must have had some Druids in our neighborhood last night, banging drums and bongos until after midnight. Actually they were pretty good percusionists. We'll find out if there were any pagan sacrifices in the news tonight.
