Option to Lock my Propane price for '08

I am under contract for the next three years to my local propane supplier for my home. I heat, cook and heat my water with it.

They are offering a 'lock-in' option if I commit by July 1 for $2.99 / gal now. I believe that propane will be the next ubber price increase come late summer /early fall. Any thoughts pro or con ?

Read the fine print.

Our local natural gas company has the same kind of program.

Thing is, when prices go down, you pay the contract rate (higher than market price). When prices go up, they tack a huge surcharge on to the bills of people who "locked-in" their price--they still end up paying higher than market prices.

Why am I not surprised by this. . .

If you want to "lock in" your price, can't you always just get a few large tanks of the stuff at today's price?

I will have to look VERY closely at the contract.......................
