Interesting article/video on the new 997
I haven’t had time to read the whole article just yet, but check out the engine testing video on pages 6-7.

The graphics of that online magazine article are very cool. Never seen anything even remotely in that class.

I must say that I am looking forward to the time when Porsche puts an 8 cylinder in the 911.

I thought they said that they couldn't make the current engine bigger than 3.8L. So what are they going to do? Seems like they have to keep up in the current power war.

Porsche will put a V8 into a 911... eventually. It will probably be a couple of generations down the line, though.
Although consider this: although the current maximum smooth capacity for a six-cylinder engine is 3.8 liters, technology changes the game considerably. Back in the 1970s, do you think that they ever thought they would reliably run a 3.8 liter flat six in a production 911? In the early-1980s, the thinking was that 2.5 liters was pretty much the maximum capacity for four-cylinder engines.... For the record, I was not a fan of the 996 (mostly due to bodywork styling), but I absolutely adore typ 997, especially the "new" facelift version. Even the new steering wheel looks fantastic.

How much more do you think a V8 will weigh than a V6?
