One of my friends died last night.

No one this close to me has died so suddenly because of a stupid decision. I don't care if your religious or not. I consider all you guys family though. Please say a prayer for Stephen Kenny.

Damn...I've lost dear friends over the years. It hurts, regardless of how it happens.

Drunk driving around 2 A.M. Was going 55 lost control in a right hander, slide over the median right into a Ford Expedition. He was in a little Saturn. Dead on the scene. Friends of mine in the car behind him had to make the 911 call. Thank god I wan't in that car. I don't know if I could even speak walking up to the accident.

Prayers sent.

Yes it sucks, in the past few years lost my brother (50) and two friends (41 & 46).

My brother and the older friend died early due to poor lifestyle choices. The other friend died in an avoidable car accident.

My condolences. How did the folks in the Expedition fare? That must have been very traumatic for them as well.

Sadly, the expedition driver is in critical condition. Driver wasn't wearing his seatbelt. No one will forgive steve for what he did to the other driver, but we are all still in shock.

my best friend died when we were both 20. He was riding in his burned out 4x4 truck being towed behind another friend's truck - his had caught fire out in the desert. Something went wrong on I8 and both trucks ended up rolling 3 times, then his went 150' down the side of the freeway. But he was dead on the first rollover, crushed by the rollbar. My other friend was relatively unhurt. I went to bed the night it happened knowing something was amiss, and got the call at 6am. Took the friend that survived back up to the crash scene later that dat to look for some belongings, and gave the eulogy and played guitar at the funeral 5 days later. Sucked.

god speed...

First and foremost in my mind on reading this is the question: how did the unfortunate, innocent occupants of the Ford fare? If they are alive, I'm sure they must be at least as traumatized as you are.

Second: my condolences for the tragic and stupid loss of your friend.

Not too many years ago I lost a brother, an alcoholic who did not deal well with his disease, even with ongoing concerted efforts by his whole family to try to help him.

One night, alone and drunk on vodka in his car, he managed to lose control, was thrown out of the car which ended up on top of him, pinning him to the ground in a watery ditch with the hot exhaust pipe across his right eye.

The doctors had to remove his eye and he laid in intensive care, conscious, with severe disfiguring burns across his face and a broken back for four days before he died.

He left a young wife an infant son and young daughter behind.
