My first scorpion hunt of the season was way too successful...

I came across my blacklight yesterday and decided to see what was crawling around in the back yard. I think I count twenty... if you include the babies hanging on their mama's back. One brought his lunch along - a half eaten cockroach. Only three got away. I'm sure I'll get them tomorrow night. Ah, the joys of desert living...

I'd rather have the scorpions than cockroaches. . .

Any pics of how they look under blacklight? I've heard it's cool.

This phenomenon is unfamiliar to me. Do you catch them for fun or are you trying to keep the population down?

How do you catch them?

Well...you walk in to a dark kitchen (barefoot) for a midnight snack...

Just an other reason to live in Pa.

Well...you walk in to a dark kitchen (barefoot) for a midnight snack...It is best to turn on the lights FIRST.......I would guess that it is just better not knowing how many there really are running aroung after dark.

The one positive thing about living in Scandinavia (well besides the blonds). None or very few scary critters (some of the blonds).

lee its apparent the DAWG DAZE OF SUMMER HAVE SET IN BIG TIME at yer house!

Super_Dave_D 06-25-2008 03:34 AM

Man them things are nasty!!! The ones we have in Florida arent that big but pack a nice sting none the less. They used to get in the house but two cats solved that, nothing that gets in the house lives for long.

So, how do you catch/find them? Do you walk out at night w/ a cordless blacklight?

onewhippedpuppy 06-25-2008 04:27 AM

Wanna come to my house and catch spiders?

don't know about that, I pretty much have stuck to blondes my whole life, but Playboy's Playmate a month or two ago was a dark haired Swede with very blue eyes, stunning, God's own handiwork.

Rather have scorpions than roaches too, never had much trouble with roaches, except this one apartment when I was a resident in Houston, that kinda sucked, and was not even the worst part. I saw somebody laying dead in the street at least a few times a week on the way to work.

I haven't (yet) seen a scorpion since I've been living in AZ. I've found a few roaches in the house, but no scorps. I bought a black light which I use when getting up in the middle of the night until I get to my flip flops on. I've seen a lot of exterminator trucks in the neighborhood in the last few days, but have not yet been moved to get the place sprayed. I just haven't seen anything dangerous in or around the house.

BTW, when we used to catch them in our house in TX, we always microwaved them for a few seconds and then my dad would display them on his desk at work.
