Wtf Nc? Lol!

Potentially Offensive License Plate To Be Replaced For Free

RALEIGH -- Thanks to some text message-savvy grandchildren, North Carolina drivers whose license plates have the potentially offensive "WTF" letter combination can replace the tags for free.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday the state Division of Motor Vehicles has notified nearly 10,000 holders of license plates with the letter combination.

Officials learned last year the common acronym stands for a vulgar phrase in e-mail and cell phone text messages.

The DMV recently realized the same letters appeared on the sample license plate on its own Web site. Officials are trying to remove the plate from the site.

DMV officials got word of the plates last July when a 60-year-old technology teacher from Fayetteville complained about the plate after her teenage grandchildren clued her in.

DMV officials said they try to keep up with the latest acronyms, and that anyone who has an issue with their plate can contact their local DMV office to request a new one.

Some guy rolling around Manassas has "WTF OMG" on his plate. THere's a yellow Lexus IS300 (really) with "PEE STN" and I saw an Audi with the plate "QQQQ" I'm offended.

Perhaps they should also eliminate the plates with OMG prefixes too, huh? They wouldn't want to send the wrong message to any text-savvy folks out there who believe in Church-State seperation!

What an incredible WUSSIFIED waste of time and money, IMO.

"Potentially Offensive". That's a pretty insidious two words, there.

I have a picture somewhere that totally relates to this subject. I think its on my computer at work.

When I lived in Woodbridge, there was a guy with the plate I952FL. It's not offensive, but I liked it so I got 2FLN88.

I get the WTF OMG, and I get QQQQ, but I'm not seeing how PEE STN is related? To me it says "Public Switched Telephone Network".

I just ordered AZ vanity plates for the bike (OLKPF, will paint in the umlaut when I get it) and the 993 (KEINH20). On the online form I had to write a short explanation for the meaning of each and provide a daytime phone #. IIRC, VA started cracking down on this stuff when someone got by with one that read ZYKLON-B. Any chance that car ever got vandalized?

Fulton County in upstate NY had plates with the prefix FU, now that could be offensive.

How about FU-AZHL.:D

So PEN 15 is no good?

Yellow Lexus IS300. I don't know how they got "PEE" through the filters. It doesn't offend me...well a yellow Lexus does. :)

I have personalized tags on 3 of my 5 vehicles. It's cheap in VA.

FAAAAAQ

That was issued in VA, and renewed several times before they figured it out.

Maybe not, I think I saw that in Penthouse.

This one's rolling around CA somewheres. . .

I just checked dmv.ca.gov - this one's available. I'm sorely tempted to get it for my 911. . .
