70s Steelers and the Juice
no, not OJ... steroids.
The Steelers have been dying off quite rapidly in the past few years with something like 16 or 17 former Steelers, many of them from the great 1970s teams dying pretty young, early 50s from heart conditions and things. This past week even QB Terry Bradshaw admitted that he used the steroids to "recover/heal" from injuries. Its interesting that we havent heard much of a peep from the hated rivals of that era, the Cowboys and the Raiders in particular. Could it be since everyone was doing the juice back then, those players are just keeping their fingers crossed about their own health? Do any of you guys think less of the Steeler dynasty now that it appears to be at least in part chemically induced? |

Speaking of Raiders: Lyle Alzado died at 42 and blamed his brain cancer on roids and HGH. John Matuzak dies at 39..similarly his death has been linked to steroids.
World class athletes don't die that young unless there is a reason. In my mind the reason is roids...and coke...but mostly roids. As far as the Steeler's legacy...like you said the whole NFL probably juiced, so the playing field was level. Besides, brute strength only get's you so far, even in a game like football. At the end of the day you need smarts and skill. The Steeler's were well coached, well led and very skilled too.

yeah they were a great team regardless of the juice, im not trying to discredit their accomplishments.... I go the the gym and lift all the time, but honestly I dont know much about steroids having never used them, though i imagine the ones today are less dangerous than the ones used 30 years ago... Its kind of sad to see these guys from that era dropping so quickly... makes one wonder what the limit is to sacrifice for glory.
